Obama mentions Youngstown in speech

Published: Wed, August 5, 2009 @ 5:40 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — The recovery and prosperity of the national economy depends on what happens in cities such as Youngstown, President Barack Obama said in a speech today in Indiana.

“The battle for America’s future will be fought and won in places like Elkhart and Detroit, Goshen and Pittsburgh, South Bend, Youngstown — in cities and towns across Indiana and across the Midwest and across the country that have been the backbone of America,” Obama said in a speech in Wakarusa, an Indiana city in Elkhart County, about the national economy.

“It is becoming clear that the Obama administration is recognizing the importance of America’s older industrial cities as extremely relevant to the success of this country,” Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams said when told of Obama’s comments. “We should be proud that Youngstown, Ohio, is being acknowledged as an innovative leader. We will continue working with the president and his administration to advance this agenda.”

So when do we, in Youngstown, win the so-called "battle"? Will it be in five, ten, twenty, or fifty years? By 2015, 2025, 2030, or 2060? Please give me an idea how soon to expect this success so that I can prepaare for the gala event!

When is that carpetbagger from Chicago going to send me that economic stimulus check?

Youngstown need to proclaim themselves a sovereign country and apply for foreign aid. This way they would get more money.

Meanwhile I'll just have to entertain the thought that he doesn't tax me and others to the point of no hope of recovery !

“It is becoming clear that the Obama administration is recognizing the importance of America’s older industrial cities as extremely relevant to the success of this country,” Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams said when told of Obama’s comments.

Translation - The administration is making sure their democratic strongholds remain loyal in 2012, vote dem and you get mentioned in a speech and the local newspaper puts it on the front page. Meanwhile, more shots fired on the southside today, likely by an unemployed, uneducated, career criminal.

If Youngstown was going to make an economic come back it would have happened in the 1980's. I don't see this administration stopping in Youngstown and giving a speech. He got your votes he doesn’t need to come back, just mention the name Youngstown.

Well, first of all,it is rather amazing he actually uttered a 2 sylable word!
Agreed...maybe he meant YOUNGSTOWN NEW YORK!
Obutta and any of the government does not care a toss about THIS Youngstown.
As usual Vindy...this really is not news.
Try reporting that, and not a story that was printed on AOL 4 months agp Forbes listed the 10 most disappearing cities in the US...Youngstown Ohio was number 1. What a shock! NOT!!! Y town has been nothing but a stain on any map for 20 years now. The burbs are getting just as bad as the "borders" are getting more and more blurred as the ghetto-ness creeps slowly into them.
And here I thot the Vindy was behind...that dumbarse pres is way behind in the news too!
How pathetic!
Dual citizenship sounds better to me everyday!
At least I would have decent health care! (And I am not talking about Canada!)
First chance...we are outta here!
