At least Obama learns from mistakes
EDITOR:
The usual local critics of President Obama have been working overtime lately on their diatribes to the editor about socialism, health care and blaming a guy that has been in office six months for every problem we are enduring as a nation, the vast majority of which he inherited when he became president. If I didn’t think these people were serious, it would be laughable but they are serious. Many of these people believe they are patriots, but true patriots don’t want their leaders or their nation to fail. Unfortunately six months after inauguration day this is where we are at as a nation. Frankly, I expected it.
I don’t have a problem with someone who disagrees with policy and can make a rational argument that they have better ideas, but this rarely happens with the majority of these folks. How can anyone take them seriously when they believe our health care system doesn’t need reformed or blame Obama for the eight years of broken government under Bush. Many of them are GOP voters, but their party is represented by Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin and doesn’t have many solutions other than opposing Obama’s ideas and saying government is bad. Of course when the government is being run by their party, government is great. Hypocritical fools.
Has there ever been a new president that has been left a bigger mess by his predecessor in our history? Certainly not in my lifetime. And the amazing part about it is that this president is trying to get a handle on it. He’s not just sitting there wringing his hands. Sure he has made some mistakes, but compared with Bush, I think he actually learns from them. By the way, if anyone recalls the first six months of the first term of President Bush, his main goal was tax breaks for the wealthy, deregulation and trying to figure out how to invade Iraq. This while being warned and ignoring the fact Bin Laden was going to attack us using airplanes.
I may in the minority when it comes to viewpoints on this page, but I feel much better having this president running things than the last one.

Agreed.
Right On!!!!!!
Tim you are so lost in some areas I don't think there is to much hope. Bush's tax cuts effected everyone not just the rich, in fact do some fact checking and you will find after the second round of cuts it was helping. In fact some of the "rich" were paying more than before his cuts.
Second if you believe that the housing mortgage crisis caused the collapse of the banking industry. Then do some research on who was one of the first people that threw a red flag on deaf ears. Then start checking out who the banks and home lenders support in elections, so it is simple follow the money. And you might want to follow it back to Carter.
No one ever said the health care system did not need fixing start with torte reform then lets take another step. i don't think tossing a trillion into the mix and doing a overhaul from a to z is the answer. And if you think it is ask your self how cash for clunkers is working out, the same people wanting to decide how your health care is going to be dished out came up with that.
After your last thought on Iraq and Bin Laden one can dismiss everything else to have to say.
As far as GWB goes. well the trip was not easy, Tech bubble, 911, 2 wars, 2 hurricanes, a mortgage bubble, a do nothing congress since 2006. So thrive on the past and all the negativity of the last 8 under GWB. And complain about your 401k dropping instead of how it grew under him.
At least by Nov 2012 we might not be referred to as The Socialist United Stats of America any more.
I see that you spew the liberal line and that there is not an original thought in your post. First and foremost. Obama's health care plan is an abomination. It will bankrupt the country and cause limited, sub par care.Countries like Canada and the UK are already experiencing this problem. Do we have a problem with health care? YES! but his is not the way to fix the problem.
I also see that you are upset about hearing someone saying they want Obama to fail. This would be a GOOD thing. Obama's economic policies are extending the rescission we are facing. I want Obama to fail so that our country can succeed. By the way? I have a degree in economics so I know what I am talking about.
I do NOT think that the republicans have done any better but you spew your party line on this yet again. Can you even try to have an original thought? JFK did the same thing as Reagan and Bush with tax cuts to spur economic growth. I guess it is okay when it comes from a liberal but not when a conservative does the exact same thing. The only way to help a poor economic situation is to provide benefit to those that provide the jobs, period!
As to our present situation, that was mostly caused BY government regulations. Most of them enacted by LIBERALS, Freddy and Fanny failing caused a huge decrease in the flow of money in this country and they were both huge liberal contributors. Several Democrats and Republicans argued for YEARS that those organizations needed more oversight but it was Harry Reid and his idiot followers that stopped that DEAD.
The Bin Laden indecent would not have been a problem but for Clinton and his failure to act. That always seems to be conveniently forgotten.
There had not been a credible warning of the 9/11 attacks and nothing like that had ever happened in the USA. I can forgive any government for not knowing this would happen. What I cannot forgive is the Liberal line of "We cannot win" being spewed again and again.
I am an Independent voter and I will give my vote to the best candidate. So far they all suck. Wake up Tim and stop spewing the party line of your liberal brain washers.
its amazing all these republicans hate Obama and still believe that bush was great. i guess thats the problem with america we only see what we like and can never admit no wrong. just like stealer fans
socialism!!!!! Be afraid!! BE VERY AFRAID!!!!
I assume all of you that are railing against socialism privately educate your children, or send all of your packages through UPS or FedEx. I also assume you don't use public roads created by the government!!!
Here's how you can tell that the wingnuts don't have a valid argument on a topic. They start throwing labels like socialism, and communism around. Grow up.
The beautiful thing about OUR form of government is that we can pick and choose the GOOD ideas from all the other forms of government.
Tim.....I couldn't agree more. Obama walked into the biggest mess this country has had in my lifetime. When everything isn't fixed instantly with no investment in the fix then he's a failure. The funniest part is that even if he could wave a magic wand and fix it all for free these critics don't want that either. They would rather the country go down the tubes than see him succeed. Some real Americans.
A sheep decrying others as sheep..... <wipes tears of laughter from eyes>... And quoting Lenin in the process...... Gorgeous.
When Obama's approval numbers get close to Bush's 24% then we can talk.

Tim, Thank you for taking the time to write your letter. I agree with you one hundred percent, and couldn't have said it any better. Great letter!
obama is an idiot? wow its amazing some people think bush was smart no wonder why bin laden calls us infidels
what also amazes me is most of the republicans claim there is a culture around youngstown that doesnt accept responsibility for their actions. yet republicans are doing the same thing so...... there needs to be a weeding out of all political parties and eliminate those who are not serving with the publics best interest at heart.
Amen woolyd, I hate the neocon Republicans as much as I do most democrats. I hate when people group me with them because they think this is a two-sided argument... I didn't vote for Barack, I didn't vote for McCain... there are many people like me and I get tired of the Republican vs. Democrat argument, there are more perspectives than that. Most democrats use Bush to dismiss many opposing viewpoints... I hated Bush as much as they did so its preaching to the choir. You can't have a real discussion when people always think you're rooting for one side. I hate the republicans and I'm glad they got their butt kicked in the elections... I just think the people who won are just as bad if not worse.
well i did vote for Obama because i thought he had a better plan and better answers. the republican ticket acted as if there were no problems and the previous 8 years were filled with truth, honesty, success, and great growth of our country.
Hope is not a plan.
Obama Mistakes: So the inexperience and the community organizer thing is kicking in then right?
Tim,
You write a letter to the editor each week. They are starting to get old. Are you the only defender of Obama in the area?
The problem with many of the posters on here,as well as those who write to the paper are that many of their comments are not based on reality.A good example is the whining about the health care issue. There is not even anything thru Congress yet but they are writing about it as if it`s the law of the land. They also can`t deal with the fact that we WERE attacked when Bush was in office. They keep spouting the lie that Bush-Cheney kept us safe for 8 yrs.Losing isn`t easy but to the victors go the spoils and the Republican Party is the loser right now in more ways than one.If the voters want President Obama to be a 1 termer then that will occur in 2012.Until then, he is our leader and if he succeeds then we all succeed.Well except for those of you that hate him and are teabaggers or birthers.
Eight year-olds dude.
AXLE, what makes you think we like the Republicans? I was complaining about Bush just as much when he was in power. He made me madder than Obama does. Bush claimed to be about small government, humble foreign policy, and free markets. He was anything but that and I was especially mad the last 2 years of presidency. That tax rebate thing was idiotic, he should have never bailed out the banks or GM, he was just as bad as the current crazy democrats that are running the show.
"By the way, if anyone recalls the first six months of the first term of President Bush, his main goal was tax breaks for the wealthy, deregulation and trying to figure out how to invade Iraq. This while being warned and ignoring the fact Bin Laden was going to attack us using airplanes."
It is lines like this that always reassure me that adults are no smarter, logical, or mature than elementary students. This whole letter is an express hypocrisy. Partisan heroics while the republic burns due to partisan mistakes.
