YOUNGSTOWN — A Poland woman is being held in the Mahoning County jail and ordered to have no contact with her young son after a call to police from a concerned citizen that the child had drug instruments in his possession.
Kendra Hazlett, 19, of N. Main Street, Poland, was arraigned Friday before Judge Robert P. Milich, Youngstown Municipal Court, on charges of child endangerment and possession of heroin. The judge set bond at $30,000 and ordered her to have no contact with her young son.
The boy has been placed in the care of his grandmother by Mahoning County Children Services.
Police were called to a home in the 2000 block of Shirley Road on the South Side at about 7 p.m. Thursday after someone witnessed a young child running carelessly with hypodermic needles.
When officers arrived at the home, the boy was found playing in a rear gravel area without any shoes and no adult supervision.
According to police, officers approached the front door of the house and saw Hazlett standing near an end table on which sat two needles and a spoon with suspected heroin residue. Officers said Hazlett showed physical signs of heroin abuse.
According to reports, police asked Hazlett if she knew where her son was, to which she replied, “I know where he’s at; he’s on the front porch.”
Officers also asked Hazlett if she had any drugs, and she told officers heroin was in her car.
Police confiscated the suspected drug, the needles and the spoon before placing Hazlett under arrest.
The concerned citizen who made the call to police told officers he watched as Hazlett sat on a front porch injecting heroin. The man said Hazlett fell to the ground after injecting the drug, and her young son retrieved the needle she was using and began to run around the yard holding it.

Typical activity on the south side. A young lady coming from nice Poland to the south side, where the thugs were only too willing to make a drug addict out of her. The neighborhoods and bars on the south side are full of drug dealers and drug addicts.
How does Kendra pay for the heroin, the house, and her food? Is she industrious and hard working, or is the government taking earnings of others and supporting her lifestyle with it? Probably the latter, wouldn't you say?. So how is that "social justice" policy working out? Real compassionate..eh?
They didn't give the exact address or I would have looked it up. Most likely, it was a section 8 rental unit. She is also highly likely to receive food stamps, medical card, and cash benefits for the first three years. The "social justice'' policy is one that is turning every city and surrounding suburb into ghetto areas where ever form of crime and irresponsibility is occuring. The entitlement mentality causes liberals to be voted into office who then deplete the treasury and raise taxes. The bleeding-hearts then try to force society's opinion to be one of sorrow so the liberals can continue to subsidize the failures that get them elected.
Samuel Adams spoke of an individuals dependence upon their government when he stated they will, "crouch down and lick the hands which feed you" and "may your chains sit lightly upon you."
I personaly know Kendra Hazlett from Poland. And this "poor" Poland girl has been in trouble with the law for many years it just finaly caught up with her.
And yes she was living on assistance and yes we were paying for it. She has had numerous chances to clean up her life I was hoping the baby would change that of course that would mean growing up. But how can she when her mom did the same damn thing to her.In fact she was living with her mother at the Shirley road address. As sad as it is to hear the baby was running around with needles I pray that he has a safe loving enviroment from now on.But do not think that Poland does not have drugs, it is just hidden better and many dealers from that "horrible south side" come to Poland and many Poland people go to that "horrible south side" don't kid yourself. As far as assistance I think we should drug test everyone who gets assistance because then something might be done to change this pattern of behavior instead of feeding it. Don't feel sorry for what has happend feel grateful because now this baby might have a chance.
THIS IS PATHETIC !
"Hazlett fell to the ground after injecting the drug, and her young son retrieved the needle she was using and began to run around the yard holding it."
Finding the source of the heroin should be a top priority. When the drug pusher and distributors are caught there should be no tolerance exercised toward them.
Everyone can sit there and point fingers, but the truth of the matter is. Why hasn't any government agency try to help this girl. Yes she has been in trouble but the law agencies up there do not care what happens to people like her. She is from Poland and so was I and there are drugs everywhere just because Poland has money doesn't mean anything. If the law agencies had did their job from the get go this would of never happened and I think if they read this they know what is being said. Even today they made mistakes the baby is not with his grandmother. Get the story straight.
The sad part is........she will have to do parenting classes, drug rehab, whether it works or not, go back to hanging out with the same losers, get this baby back and he will not have a chance in hell of a good life. Sad, but this happens over and over and over again......
The entire Nation should read mediamomma's post.
Yes, if we are going to give other people's hard earned money to Kendra, than she should undergo random drug testing and random social worker visits to the home. Personally, I would phase out these sick, cruel and destructive entitlement programs.
Kendra and Kendra's baby is Exhibit A in the case of the profane effects of liberalism.
Why are your eyes not opened. Kendra had many chances to be drug tested since she is in and out of trouble, but every little city Boardman, Struthers, Youngstown, Poland chose to look the other way. Why hasn't her probation officer's had her checked? Why didn't the children service go to the home earlier since it was reported? Why did they wait till this happened?
nice to see its someone from the rich and affluent neighborhoods. ytown doesnt seem to be as bad 2day
