Welcome to the Covelli Centre

Published: Wed, April 29, 2009 @ 12:00 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — The Chevrolet Centre is now Covelli Centre.

The city and center officials announced the new name this morning and introduced the man behind the naming partnership.

Sam Covelli, president and chief executive officer of Covelli Enterprises, signed a three-year contract and will pay $120,000 annually for the naming rights.

Eric Ryan, the center’s executive director, said all signs and logo should be changed within 30 to 45 days.

“By June 1, we’re hoping to be changed over,” he said.

Skolnick reported just 12 hours ago at

http://vindy.com/news/2009/apr/29/covell...

"The city received a proposal from Bruce Zoldan, owner of the B.J. Alan fireworks company and the Mahoning Valley Phantoms hockey team that played most of its home games at the center, for the naming rights.

Zoldan had offered $140,000 annually for five years for the center’s naming rights."

So the city turned down a $700,000 deal for a $360,000 deal. What am I missing here??

Yeah, you're right "Westside". I noticed the same thing. Between the two stories, the city is turning down $340,000.00. Someone has some explaining to do. Sounds like the city has something against Zoldan or maybe it is all the things Covelli has done for the city.

Again I agree with the other opinions, Mr. Zoldan has done much fot this city and Covelli nothing, are you the city that stupid that you can not see what a mistake you are making. Mr. Zoldan should pull is business out of downtown, they the city does not seem to care why should he.
