Two arrested in April 13 drive-by shooting in Warren

Published: Fri, April 24, 2009 @ 11:20 a.m.

WARREN — Within hours of arrest warrants being issued for two Warren men wanted in the double-homicide April 13 on Wick Street Southeast, both men were in the custody of the Warren Police Department.

Both men will be arraigned at 1 p.m. today in Warren Municipal Court before Judge Thomas Gysegem on two counts each of aggravated murder.

Eugene M. Henderson, 25, of Pearl Street Southwest, surrendered to police at 5 p.m. Thursday.

And at five minutes after midnight today, Warren police officers and members of the Northern Ohio Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force arrested Eugene Cumberbatch, 26, of Front Street Southwest at a home on Front Street. The house where Cumberbatch was found is a short distance from the location where he was living.

Police issued the arrest warrants earlier Thursday and distributed photographs of the men Thursday afternoon at a flag raising in front of the Trumbull County Jail. The ceremony was to remember 11-year-old Lloyd McCoy, killed in the shooting for which Henderson and Cumberbatch are accused.

Police arrested a third man, Marcus L. Yager, 22, of Vine Avenue Northeast, on Tuesday and charged him with complicity to murder.

Lloyd, who lived across the street from the house where the shooting took place, and Marvin J. Chaney, 26, of Fifth Street Southwest, were both killed in the gunfire, which resulted in about 20 gunshots being fired into the home.

I think they both realized they may be safer in lockup than on the streets. As my grandmother used to say "good riddance to bad rubbish."

Condolences to the young boy's family.

I really can't believe that these two believed they would get away with such a heinous crime. What in the world were they thinking! Their fellow roomies in the hooscow don't take kindly to child killers and I'm sure the rest of their pathetic lives won't be worth a hoot if it was a hoot to begin with.. Jailhouse justice is a very nasty thing. Those boys don't mess around. See ya Eugene and Eugene and to quote jgm820..."Good riddance to bad rubbish."
