Police seeking witnesses of motorcycle-SUV collision

No charges have been filed against the driver of the SUV.

BOARDMAN — Police continue to investigate a Friday afternoon traffic accident on South Avenue that claimed the life of a Boardman man who was thrown from his motorcycle when it collided with a sport-utility vehicle near Woodfield Court.

Killed in the collision was Robert E. Davis, 60, of Meadowbrook Avenue. He was found unresponsive and injured on the road as a result of the 3:52 p.m. accident.

He was pronounced dead at 4:55 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Boardman police said Davis was traveling southbound on his 2002 Honda motorcycle when a northbound 2009 Dodge Journey SUV attempting to make a left turn into the private driveway of Dr. James A. Armile’s office, 8262 South Ave., collided with him.

The driver of the SUV is a 35-year-old Boardman man who has not been identified.

He was taken by family members to St. Elizabeth Health Center’s Boardman campus, where he was evaluated and released.

Davis, who was not wearing a helmet, had a valid motorcycle license endorsement.

Ohio does not require the holder of a valid motorcycle endorsement to wear a helmet, Boardman police said.

Detective Glenn Patton, a state-certified traffic-crash reconstructionist, has been assigned as the lead investigator on the case.

No charges have been filed in the case and are pending the completion of the investigation, as well as consultation with the Mahoning County prosecutor’s office. The Mahoning County coroner’s office is assisting with the investigation.
