Three nabbed after Canfield prostitution investigation

Published: Fri, April 17, 2009 @ 2:15 p.m.

CANFIELD — City police arrested three people this afternoon in connection with a two-month prostitution investigation.

Detective Brian McGivern said El Patio Motel, on West Main Street, has been the subject of many complaints over the past 10 years. He said the investigation began, with the help of the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department, after a complaint of solicitation for sex at the business.

Arthur Klein, 67, El Patio owner and Canfield township resident, is charged with a fourth degree felony of promoting prostitution.

“This charge alleges that Klein established, maintained, operated, managed, supervised, controlled or had an interest in a brothel,” McGivern said.

The motel’s manager, Patricia Jordan, 51, is charged with procuring prostitution. McGivern said the charge, a first-degree misdemeanor, means Jordan was aware of the illegal activity but continued to rent out rooms.

Mark Dean Sr., 45, a motel employee, is charged with soliciting prostitution.

Both Dean and Jordan lived at the motel.

All three will appear in Mahoning County Area Court in Canfield at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Pretty funny. Canfield is becoming worse than Boardman and Austintown!

Sad, now they'll have to find other revenue streams in Canfield.
Look out for more speed traps!

I don't understand why this is labeled a crime. If two willing and un-coerced parties agree, then it is no one elses business.

but when exchange of money is involved I think that changes the whole thing, View, no money involved you would be dating. :)

If they could figure out a way to get taxes from it, prostitution would be legal.

You could get taxes from it if it was legalized like they do in Germany and other countries. What about Nevada they got it.

its only illegal because they really cant put a tax on it. if they could, trust me it would be legal. if you ask me, its no diffrent than going out on a dinner date for the first time and having sex afterwards. theres no law against that now is there. all though it is funny to see it happen in canfield. the place of the all oh so mighty and perfect. while mommy,s in the kittchen baking brownies and cakes in her $380,000.00 house daddy is banging some skank in a skanky hotel room. thought maby they,d atleast take the call girls to the days inn in north lima.

"Mark Dean Sr., 45, a motel employee, is charged with soliciting prostitution."

I wonder if he got a discount for working there? In Youngstown we have escort services which advertise in "The Vindy".Here is the ad for one of them.

Private Discreet Dancers.

So, in Youngstown we have known crack houses and escort services but the city wants to shut down a grocery store on the East Side. Its all in the culture!

Let's dredge the waters at the El Patio and see how many bottom feeders are connected to Youngstown.Keep us posted Vindy!

The big problem is that prostitution isnt just about paid sex b/t 2 people. Many women are trapped into a vicious circle where they cannot get out of it, where they are forced or suckered into leaving their families and living a sad life. Once while waiting for a visa in line in the Czech Republic, I saw a pimp daddy 'herding' 15 or so young girls through red tape (paying off the officer I am sure). These girls looked like they have no idea what they are getting into.

Far too many times the pimps have the goods on politicians and law enforcement. Lets get the pimps some slammer time and let the chips fall where they may !
