Historical society dinner to focus on Goodsell

MERCER, Pa. — The public is invited to the annual dinner of the Mercer County Historical Society on April 24.

This year’s dinner and program will feature a “Celebration of Dr. John Goodsell” in honor of the 100th anniversary of the 1908-09 Peary Expedition to the North Pole and his role in it. Goodsell settled in Sandy Lake in 1923 and lived the rest of his life there.

Tickets for the dinner are available for $10 each at the society office or by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to MCHS, 119 S. Pitt St., Mercer PA 16137. The deadline is Tuesday. For more information, call the society at (724) 662-3490.
