YOUNGSTOWN — David Sharpe, the 46-year-old Pyatt Street man who pleaded guilty to reckless homicide in the drowning and dismemberment of 15-year-old Jimmie P. Higham, has been sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison.
Sharpe said nothing during the hearing Thursday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, while the boy’s father, James Higham and the boy’s mother, Yumi Nagi, told Judge Maureen A. Sweeney of the sadness they feel over the boy’s death in 2001.
“I would like to kiss him goodbye and thank him for coming into my life as my son,” Nagi said.
The boy’s father said he spent 19 months in an institution after his son’s death, trying to recover from the strain.

7 1/2 yrs for murdering and dismembering a teen.? Is that how short we sell our lives today? What would the sentence have been if it was a Judge's/Cop's kid.? What happened to " An eye for an eye"? In this case his life for the one he stole?? A little time and off he goes and this is Justice- more like Just- us and the guilty go free and the victims continue to be victims forever. This is a sick world we live in to allow this outrage!!
We really need better judges around here. There's no way he should have accepted such a light sentence.
Biros was sentenced to death for homicide and dismemberment if I remember correctly.
Wow how times have changed............
