Lisa Antonini, democrat, Mahoning County Treasurer and former Chairwoman of the Mahoning County Democratic Party

YOUNGSTOWN — Lisa Antonini has resigned as Mahoning County Democratic Party chairwoman with a line already forming to replace her.

Antonini resigned today after seven years as chairwoman.

Just as she did Wednesday and Thursday, Antonini didn’t return telephone calls today from The Vindicator about her resignation.

But she confirmed her resignation on her cell phone’s voice-mail message.

“If you’re calling regarding my recent resignation as chair of the Mahoning County Democratic Party I’ll be available on Monday, April 13,” she said on the message. “I’m doing so in honor of the holy Easter day weekend.”

Among those seeking to replace Antonini are: Atty. David Betras; Jaladah Aslam, the party’s vice chairwoman in charge of labor relations; and Sam Matheny, who works at the county board of elections.

Is it just me or do others see the lack of wisdom in seeking this chair while an employee of the county board of elections?

I wonder who the Cafaro's will choose to be the next party leader?

Cafaros will push for it to be Betras. He has already represented Cafaro interests vs Mahoning County regarding the Oakhill move of JFS. Cafaros already dominate Trumbull County, time for them to solidify their grip on Mahoning County. Cafaros are an empire. While they are free to meddle in the affairs of our democracy, the people have no right to meddle in their affairs.

If they don't give it to King David, then he'll just sue them, if not on this issue, then another. He'll have himself made special prosecutor and destroy his political enemies. It's in their "best interests" not to cause problems for themselves and just submit to him. This is the situation we face under this liberalism.

the last time i check, the democratic party was runned by democratic voters in mahoning county. i strongly suggest anyone that is a stakeholder in the democratic process attend the public meeting when the precinct committeemen/wo elect the new chair. as an innocent bystander, you will see the power-play that will come out of these individuals. if you know your precinct committee person i strongle suggest that you voice your opinion on his/her selection for this position. i strongly urge everyone and anyone support the most qualified and untainted one from the wrath of the moneybrokers that had destroyed this valley for their personal interests. i would like to see a dark horse from corners of this democratic party to succeed as partychair that has progessive ideas that aren't associated with the likes of the Hanni's, hagen's, gerrberry's, mcnally's, carano's, sciontino's and the lisa's of this mahoning valley democratic party. these individuals makes the real true blue voters of mahoning valley look like a brunch of boofoons. this is the time to elect someone that has the best interest at heart for the mahoning valley residents instead of individuals that are concern of beefing up thier PERS at the taxpayers expense.
