YOUNGSTOWN — The majority of the $3.5 million in federal money received this year by the Mahoning County Homeless Continuum of Care will be spent on providing permanent housing for homeless residents.
The Continuum of Care is funded for with $1.6 million in stimulus money received by Youngstown and $1.9 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, said Erin Bishop, Continuum coordinator.
The organization met today to update member agencies and to wrap up this year’s Cold Weather Emergency Shelter Program.

no doubt. Why should the $3.5 million in federal money (our tax money) go to buying homes for the homeless? Sure you could buy a lot of homes in Y-town for that kind of money, but why do the homeless deserve a free ride? Won't these people that have kids expect a free house too?
This approach will do "NOTHING" to break the cycle of homelessness you want to break the cycle ??? Use ever penny and send these people to college so they can get a good paying job for the community; so that they can afford to buy their own home and setting an example for their children to just NOT get something handed down to them.
*sigh*
Send homeless people to college? That's realistic! And, don't blame people for being able to vote on property taxes. Any "fine upstanding citizen" who lives in an apartment can vote to increase your property taxes. Redirect your anger: it's the game, not the players.
Realistic?
You're kidding, right? I'm busting my ass to be able to afford to go to college and they should be, too. These people don't need hand outs. Hand outs don't teach anyone anything.
