Board of Elections OK's Aey's write-in candidacy

Published: Tue, September 30, 2008 @ 10:39 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Board of Elections unanimously agreed today to allow David Aey to run as a write-in candidate for county sheriff.

The board rejected a protest against Aey’s candidacy filed by Sheriff Randall Wellington, the only candidate for the office whose name will appear on the ballot.

Wellington questions whether Aey has the education requirements needed to run for sheriff.

Aey’s attorneys provided a certified transcript last week showing their client had 60 credit hours, more than enough to qualify as a candidate.

J.B. Hadden, Wellington’s attorney, said after the hearing that the sheriff will file an appeal to the board’s decision with the Ohio Supreme Court as early as Wednesday.

This makes you wonder what Wellington is scared of. If David Aey is not qualified the voters of Mahoning County will make that decision for themselves. This makes me question whether Wellington is on the up and up, or just another official that wants to keep his cushy job that the tax payers are paying for.

Shows over Randy, time to actually tell the people why they should vote for you instead of why they shouldn't vote for Aey. I don't think you'll be able to Wellington your way out of this one.

IT'S ABOUT TIME THAT DAVID AEY HAS BEEN GIVEN THE GREEN LIGHT TO PROCEED. WITH DAVID AEY THE OFFICE OF THE SHERIFF OF MAHONING COUNTY WILL HAVE THE DIGNITY THAT IT SHOULD. NO MORE BACK ROOM POLITICS. WELLINGTON NEEDS TO RETIRE AND WALK THE MALL & TAKE HIS NAPS ON HIS TIME AND NOT THE COUNTY'S.

GO DAVID ! ! YOUR FRIENDS IN CAMPBELL & MAHONING COUNTY ARE BEHIND YOU 110 %

Aey is shadier than Wellington. The educational transcripts he turned in are a joke...its an insult to educated people who actually worked hard for one!

There is a reason Wellington is scared despite Aey's lack of qualifications. There's alot of uneducated people in this county who will simply overlook his credentials simply to push old man Wellington out...period. It's sad, but true.

I was hopefull there would be another candidate on the ballot we could all rally around...no such case!
