MCCAIN VISIT UPDATE: Oles, two other democrats to speak

Published: Tue, September 16, 2008 @ 1:38 p.m.

VIENNA — Austintown Township Trustee Lisa Oles will be among local Democrats who will speak today at the John McCain and Sarah Palin rally.

Oles is among at least three Democrats who will talk at the Republican presidential-vice presidential nominees’ rally at Winner Aviation at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.

In an interview in a holding room at the airport, Oles said she’s supporting the Republican ticket because of McCain’s experience and because the Republican ticket is stronger on national security issues than the Democratic ticket of Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

“National security trumps all social issues,” said Oles, who added that she agrees with McCain on “most social issues,” but declined to give specifics.

Oles said she doesn’t know when she’ll be speaking at the rally.

“I hope I don’t mess up the speech,” she said.

Also speaking on behalf of the McCain ticket today are Campbell Councilwoman Juanita Rich and that city’s ex-Mayor Dominic Medina.

It should be noted that while the three are Democrats, they all ran in nonpartisan races.

Two Democratic officeholders — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown of Avon and U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles — blasted McCain today on a conference call with reporters.

Brown said McCain is “clearly out of touch” on economy issues. Ryan added that the Republican presidential nominee is “so far detached from what the reality is on the ground.”

Also, Youngstown officials have confirmed that Biden, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, will hold a rally Thursday evening on West Federal Street in front of the city-owned 20 Federal Place, the former Phar-Mor Centre.

The event is to start about 6:30 p.m. Those wanting to attend the outdoor rally can show up as early as 5:30 p.m., said Phil Kidd, the city’s downtown director of special events and special projects.

The only entrance is the corner of North Phelps and West Federal streets, he said.

The campaign is expecting about 1,000 to attend the Biden rally.

Because of time needed to prepare for the event, West Federal Street between Phelps and Market streets will be closed beginning at 5 a.m. Thursday, Kidd said.

Check back for updates on today’s McCain-Palin rally.

Instead of speaking at a rally Lisa, shouldn't your Trusteeship time be better spent speaking at a County Commissioner's Meeting to get Mahoning Avenue Paved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is only one "skirt" that people are flocking to see at the Vienna Airport, and it certainly isn't yours.

Here is a prime example of an area "Democrat" not really being a Democrat but simply running as such to get elected.

Palin and McCain better at national security??? The same McCain who will invade Iran? The same McCain who voted for this bottomless pit of a war in Iraq based on false pretenses?

Come on Lisa, at least tell the truth!

I can tell you this much, I may have voted for her before, but I will never again. The fact that she is supporting Palin who wants to drag female rights back 40 years is appalling.

Lisa "McKelvey" Oles - please know, my family and extended family has supported you in the past but going forward not one of us (about 40 votes)would vote for Mickey Mouse over you for ANY office. All of us will be encouraging all of our friends, co-workers, etc., to get defeat you the next time you run for anything. I thought you were a women who stood for something, a woman of principle - you showed you are just another phony, worthless politician, who thinks jumping on the Palin-McSameAsBush bandwagon for 15 minutes of fame is more important than doing what is right for the people that elected you. Ask McKelvey where it got him. The Democratic Party should drag you out by your fake blonde hair and throw you to the republicans.

A Trustee's office is supposedly "non-partisan" and the office holder should remain that way while in office. Just another valley joke.

Well she won my vote now. I was never an Oles supporter until now! Now we have TWO REPUBLICAN Trustee's disguising themselves as registered Democrats:

WARREN BO PRITCHARD
LISA OLES

I wonder if Ditzler is too!?!?!?!?!?

It takes great courage to stand up for what you believe, and Lisa Oles has shown that courage many times....and especially now. Some Democrats tend to vilify and denigrate anyone that doesn't agree with them, but marching in lock-step isn't an American trait or tradition. God granted each of us the ability to decide, and our Constitution gives us the freedom to do so. We need people in government who can evaluate and make the tough choices even when they are unpopular to those who put party first. America First I think.

Obama wants to modernize and expand the current US military, end the current, wasteful and futile Republican-created war, give full support to our neglected returning veterans and their families AND ensure that diplomacy is used to its full extent before going to another war. That is the security policy I want.

i think i might vote on the candidate who says No to the 700 billion dollar pay off. They already passed 300 billion this past summer so that is a solid trillion. i feel bad if people got duped in sub-prime loans or if banks gave out more that they should have. i can remember family working hard buying 2ND hand clothes having 1 car so that we could make sure the mortgage was there. So the person who wants to not bail them out, take them over, sell off, assets and possibly re work loans for people who can make a mortgage payment and pass laws to hold CEO Board members accountable for their business. i don't want to hear how some one was in charge of picking Biden for VP when he made 90 million in 6 years as a CEO, But Hidden field campaign manager is part of the Chicago Political machine.

As far as some local democrats supporting McCain Palin who hold elected positions. At least some see the light if you think bush was a bad president. Try Obama, Biden, Reid, Pelosi, Kerry, and the rest of the left America would not survive it. There the biggest spenders biggest ere mark asking people out there.

IL [Chicago] has had more murders this year than Iraq there sales tax is 7% people who live there are not all fans of years of democratic control but are way out numbered. Obama's pork spending and asking equals a million a day for IL and there still in shambles. So it is a safe bet if Obama even votes for it [his past record] That i can vote with my mind this fall in a no brain-er for McCain/Palin in 08

Even though you and I disagree on our views, in general I respect the way you state things and it seems that you do some homework.

If you start making things up your going to start looking like some other posters that make things up.

You stated that there were more murders in Chicago this year than in Iraq. There bombings in Iraq weekly. People are still being killed 20 and 30 at a time and government officials and police officers and recruits are still being killed throughout Iraq.

One reason that violence is down in Iraq is that the Shiite militia and the Sunni insurgents are being paid by the US to not fight. What do you think is going to happen when Us tax payers stop paying them to not kill each other? Thier lunatics. I say give em bullets.

I do read your posts and I don't think you generally make things up so I'm going to give you a pass this time.

Start doing a little homework on McSame's history on deregulation and government oversight. Can you believe the administration that was steering the ship wants 700 billion with no government oversight, no explanation as to where the money goes and everyone knows it's going to the CEO's that ripped everyone off due to no regulations or government oversight.

No child left a dime.

Your right maybe i need to read left wing blogs a little more. In fact maybe i won't go to the Thomas Library site and find out who's name is on what bills and what the bills are. And i won't copy and paste Obama education and background from Wikipedia. Instead i will go to You Tube or MSNBC or just NBC [new barrack channel] or snoopes or moveon.org

I am a uneducated 47 swm who is a union carpenter and have a CDL i will support and vote for Mr.McCain this fall and can't wait for Sarah to be at his side as VP

We as a country can not afford Obama, Biden, Palosi, Kerry, Reid, Schumer.

When I asked you to do a little homework on McSame and his record on government regulations and oversight I never meant for you to go to left wing blogger sites.

Just go to the federal government archives and check his voting record on government regulations and oversight. Listen to his speeches and his views on government regulations and oversight.

The lack of government regulations and oversight caused this latest bailout of this latest bunch of crooks.

Lack of regulations and oversight has ruined the airline industry, trucking, led to the taxpayer bailouts of the S&L's and now another 700 billion to bailout an economy that was "fundamentally strong" just last week.

In the last 28 years Republicans have been in the White House 20 of those years. All 20 years the economy was in a down trend.

In the last 28 years a Democratic was in the White House 8 years and we had the strongest economy in the history of the country.

The Republicans had their chance and their record speaks for itself. Time For a change.

Well i voted for Clinton 2x Gore and Kerry.
One of Bush first things he did was to get a education bill going and gave the reins to Ted Kennedy he did nothing but stab Bush in the back, 911 was next, rumors of war, invasion of Iraq I wanted the UN and NATO about, Katrina the first time a unorganized FEMA got there chance, more war, rumors of housing collapse, More Hurricanes and Bush's FEMA and Governors stepped up and did a decent job. Now the bailout. So yes Bush has had problems his approval rating is down to record low. But look at Congress what has anyone of them done other than line their pockets. There is no money left for health care, no money for any programs on the scale we need to improve this country. Imagine if we could put 200 billion into alternative fuel. 200 billion into education system, maybe take the other 300 billion into the hurting cities and build the infrastructure up? But we have to bail out incompetence business, CEO and a lot of the money and people trail ends up in the democrats hands and close friends. Bush warned congress in 2001 Ron Paul in 2004 John McCain in 2005.

And their are many people who won't listen to them this day and all they do is criticize them and point fingers at them At least Bush and Paul and McCain can stand up and point at congress and say told you so!

OBAMA BIDEN PALOSI REID DODD KERRY FRANKS SCHUMER running the country?
WRIGHT FLAGGER AYER JOHNSON REZKO AS FREINDS

Don't complain about the debate either McCain offered since June to have town hall meetings all over the country Obama was to busy. In a time when Washington needed everyone to keep us from possible soup lines. McCain put country first, Obama said call me. You can and will say it was a political move on McCain's part, but call me if you need me? Since McCain is busy doing his job maybe Sarah will fly to Mississippi to debate "call me" Obama or call me Hussein

You can not be that gullible to think that McCain is so critical to the bailout proposal process that he needed to be in Washington to see this through. Ever heard of a conference call or web cam? Please, he had an opportunity to duck out of the debate and he took it. The "big business" Republicans are the reason this country is in the mess it is in and McCain definitely isn't the one to solve the economic crisis, he thinks the fundamentals are sound.

As for Congress, it was Republican led up until last November. Rolling Stone magazine did a series of articles on the tactics and strategies used by those Congress people. It is a good read and a real eye opener.

As I said before Cambridge - you are an idiot. Obama did not correct himself - the interviewer corrected him. Obama has been in bed with Muslims, terrorists and the Chicago "Machine" forever. He will take our guns away, disarm America and turn our whole country into a Socialist state. The Dems have been fighting for that all along.
PS - McCain has wanted to do town meetings all along and Obama refused because if he doesn't have a telepromter he can't even talk!!!! da, uh, da, uh, uh, uh...... He's scared to death of the questions that might be asked.

Here it is in a nutshell, TomCat...Obama is a half-Muslim, the other half is the Rev. "GD America" faith, whatever you can call that. He is also only half-black, therefore he is half white, therefore one cannot say he is the first black American running for president, which so many are hanging their hats on.......so now we all must decide, is he black, white, Muslim, Christian, radical, sensible, left, right.......on the other hand, his opponent has stated his views, race, religion etc.., clearly. So who do you choose and for what reasons?? Frankly I don't think either is worth 2 cents. I think Sarah is our best bet , she really doesn't give a crap what anybody thinks and owes nobody anything. She stands up for herself and her views which are the views of many and I do believe she can follow through in any situation. She has the "blls" both of those 2 guys lack.
