Dann ties cause candidate to leave race

Published: Thu, September 4, 2008 @ 12:00 a.m.

COLUMBUS (AP) — The Democrat running for county prosecutor in Columbus has dropped out of the race out of concern it would focus on her ties to former Attorney General Marc Dann.

Tomi Lynn Dorris says “substantive issues and ideas” were being lost in her challenge to Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien.

Dorris is an assistant attorney general and served under Dann, who resigned in May amid scandals.

Dorris notes she had worked in the attorney general’s office for 11 years before Dann arrived and says he dishonored the agency.

In a statement Tuesday, Dorris said “politics of destruction” forced her from the prosecutor’s race.

Democratic leaders planned to meet Wednesday to discuss whether it’s too late to put another candidate on the ballot.

Didn't one news account say she was dating one of the departed officials. I'd call that a tie to Dann for sure.
