No more free parking at Chevy Center events

Published: Thu, October 30, 2008 @ 6:48 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN —With city council not interested in renewing a parking contract, those attending Chevrolet Centre events can expect to pay between $5 and $10 a vehicle at USA Parking Systems decks and lots, its owner said.

That fee will go into effect Saturday, Lou Frangos, USA Parking’s owner, said today.

There are two nearly sold-out Trans-Siberian Orchestra shows Saturday at the center. TSO is traditionally one of the most popular shows at the center.

A majority of city council members told The Vindicator after a Wednesday meeting that they intend to not renew a contract with USA Parking to provide spaces in decks and lots for those going to events at the center.

That contract expires Friday.

“The city has to do what it has to do,” said Frangos, who’s willing to renegotiate the deal. “I sure hope people don’t come down Saturday and think they’ll park for free.” He added it will take time for people to get used to paying for parking.

For the complete story, see Friday’s Vindicator and Vindy.com.

How convienent that fees should start for their most popular weekend. I realize that parking is standard when going to Cleveland, Pittsburgh, etc. but Youngstown is not Cleveland, Pittsburgh, etc.
So tired of everyone making a buck. After paying local, state, federal and property taxes you would think that we could at least park on pavement for free; after all we already paid taxes on our vehicles, drivers license, gas, and tax on the tickets for the show.

It us unfair that City Council would cancel the contract for FREE parking and still not reduce the cost of the ticket price by the tax they imposed per ticket to pay for the Parking. ONLY the people of Youngstown lose again, the City still collects the tax, the public (Joe the Plumber) still pays the parking tax fee, and the Parking company begins charging. You can't blame them, They're not stupid. What's NEW? Just we the public get SNOOKERED AGAIN!
