Reports: Palin drags down Republican ticket

Published: Tue, October 28, 2008 @ 12:00 a.m.

Sarah Palin

McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — Sarah Palin has become a drag on the Republican presidential ticket, the first time in recent political history that a running mate has made such a difference.

Among many independents and moderate Republicans, she’s raised serious questions about John McCain’s judgment, become too much of a national punch line and reinforced concerns about Mc- Cain’s age.

In a nationwide survey Oct. 16-19, Pew Research Center found that 49 percent of respondents had unfavorable views of Palin, while 44 percent saw her favorably.

She's a right wing whacko who plays well to the religious nutbags.

Yes Obama will bring a better Muslim and socialist US of A or is that the US of KKKA.

And if that don't "Change" you mind, Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Reid, Franks, Schumer, Kerry. Should "Change" your mind.

Well Nathan, I've watched the videos of Palins heil Hitler gatherings and don't see any connections between Obama and all those you mention except for the Democrats currently in congress.

But, keep trying, you have one week to make us believe those lies and innuendo.

So, what's the difference between $150,000 on clothes for campaigning and $150,000,000 on advertisements for campaigning?

How come the main stream media didn't pick up on that?

Suggest removal:

5apollo(1227 comments)posted 7 years, 3 months ago

The difference is this. If you are painting yourself as Joe the plumber and hockey Mom extraordinaire, then you don't go to Saks Fifth Avenue and spend 150K on clothes. But, the entire house of cards called the McCain campaign has done nothing but Obama bashing, distancing himself from Bush even though he voted 90+% with Bush, and kowtowing to the religious right base.

What a pick Palin was!

I must have missed your point, because it seems to me that you don't have an answer for the difference.

Sarah Palin is hot. The clothes she WAS wearing were bought for her by the Republican Party so she would have the same "fresh, new look" as Michelle Obama who happens to buy her own clothes at Saks. She looks better in blue jeans anyway.

I believe you did miss apollo's point. If your going to portray yourself as every woman and you spend $150,000 on cloths in two months and refer to Obama as an elitist than you are a hypocrite. The money Obama spends on his campaign is money sent to him by campaign contributions to be used for advertisements and campaigning?

Obama 08!

And the money that the RNC spent on Sarah Palin is for ????

Exactly the same thing, advertisements and campaigning.

Of course thing you will never hear on MSM [main street media]

One of Obama's cuts is to eliminate GSL's for students.

It is in the works to take your 401k's and put that money into a sister account of Social Security collecting 3% interest. If you put 5 percent of what you make into it. As a bonus you will get a $5-600 annual check. The payoff will be distributed like Social Security in 500 dollar amounts till depleted. A 45% inheritance tax if pasted on. Of course you will subject to the penalties. Most likely 10% to start with to move it and of course later.

Grant it it is not a tax hike. But pulling out every one's 401k's out of the market out of investors hands into a Government controlled savings system. Might be a hint of the projected 1.3 trillion in new social programs and where the money is coming from. But I don't think anyone would ever take money from Social Security or a Sister program to fund some thing would they? I also do not think the market will be to happy with the move.

Another Government controlled wealth plan?

Google Obama 401k or Democrats 401k

McCain Palin 08

Another MSM: NObama paid off Biden's bills from his aborted attempt for the presidency [2x loser] it was more than her wardrobe. maybe that is why Hilary and Bill are on the stump?

Hilary and Bill are out there campaigning for Obama. If I recall right Bill will be in our area tomorrow to speak in favor of Obama.

This is all indicative of a schism within the Republican party. When esteemed, intellectual members of the party like George Will and Peggy Noonan are slamming the McCain VP choice and the direction of the party, you know its downhill from here.

In the end they can spend donated money however they choose, but if I had donated funds to a party or campaign I would most likely never do so again after finding out that these were the types of things that my money was used for. Political advertisements and convention-related costs are one thing but clothes for the candidate and his/her family from high-end retailers are entirely different.

TheLostPatrol....You are voting for two people who can't even agree among each other anymore. How do expect them to lead our country? Palin is now only about herself. You would think she is also running for president. She is definately bringing down the ticket. I think Palin is a horrible voice for woman everywhere. She just needs to go back to Alaska!

andersonathan: i've been reading your many posts for a while and talk about a broken record. you can list all the names you want but did you conveniently forget mccain was the keynote speaker for ACORN in february of '06 or that he was on a board that donated $500,000 to khalidi?

your problem (among so many others) is you see what you want to see and you hear what you want to hear.

even if obama was muslim, shouldn't he still allowed to be president? this is the united states of america, right? of course, he's a christian but you completely disregard that fact.

and you complain about the democrats wanting too much government? what about palin wanting to make a constitutional amendment mandating that under no circumstances could a woman terminate a pregnancy? and who's business is it who marries who?

you'd elect a man who has no new ideas and no control of his campaign or his running mate (or maybe even his bladder) because the truth is you don't want a black man to be president, simple as that. admit it.

you both make good points. only lostpatrol, yours are all wrong. you're voting for mccain "BECAUSE he picked sarah palin"? good lord, haven't you heard a thing she's said? she'd step on her mother's throat to get ahead?

the other night barrack obama was in florida with bill clinton. mccain was in sandusky with who? joe, the plumber. joe was supposed to be in defiance but no one told him. is anyonne in charge of that campaign?

it's pathetic.

Bill Clinton urged voters to consider Four Points in choosing a President:

* Philosophy - Obama's organizing philosophy is that America works from the ground up, not from the top down.

* Policy - Obama's policy ideas on the economy, education, health care, and energy are right for America now.

* Decision - Obama has demonstrated superior decision-making skills, e.g., his choice of Biden for VP, and his careful informed response to the financial crisis.

* Execution - In organizing and conducting an historically successful election campaign, Obama has demonstrated key talents as an executive.

... Clinton asked people to present these four ideas to voters until Election Day.

The sad thing about Sarah Palin is that she is completely ignorant on nearly every matter of contemporary American politics. She is incredibly charismatic, granted, but imagine if she knew what she was talking about - she'd be a true leader of the social conservatives. Alas, she's a moron whose run on sentences and bizarre proper name mishaps expose a lack of knowledge EVEN GREATER than W. Bush's. Now that is change we don't need. Putting $150k, or even 1.5mil worth of new clothes on this person would not change the fact of her incompetence. American politics is not a sequel to Legally Blonde.

Are any of you aware of the fact that Sarah is MORE briefed on the security of this country than either of the other candidates? She is the governor of a state that is a prime target for attack, thus her knowledge. Are you also aware that she will have to return those clothes and they will be auctioned off? Don't let her demeanor fool you, she is one smart cookie and I bet if they win she will totally confuse the other countries who think like you do.That will be a good thing!

Sarah is a jack! A very bad choice by McCain and his team. You all know if Hilary was Obama was running mate, there would have been no Sarah Palin!!! Sarah is joke, and looks like a complete idoit when interviewed. Now she at odds with her own running mate. It seem like she is ASLO trying to run for president instead of VP!

This was sent in by a reader, so I thought I would share it with you:

Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign the read
“Vote Obama, I need the money.” I laughed. Once in the restaurant my
server was wearing a “Obama 08′ tie, again I laughed–just imagine the
When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him
that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood
there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his
tip to someone who I deemed more in need–the homeless guy outside. The
server angrily stormed from my sight.
I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server
inside as I’ve decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was
grateful. At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I
realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but
the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even
though the actual recipient needed the money more.

I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept
than in practical application.

Well guess what Obama lovers, he has announced that electric bills will sky-rocket and the coal mines will be bankrupt.....his speech was just on Fox, I'm sure it will be everywhere tomorrow. So be prepared to sit in the dark and pat yourselves on the back, but nobody will see you!

Um, Clayor, skyrocketing electric bills and bankrupt Ohio companies are new to you?
Here's a few more shockers: Ohioans will consider casino jobs and payday loan sharking as careers. Your bank branch may close.
Ohio jobs may move to Mexico and China!
And Nathan, do you actually have any investments? Would you like to know what happened to my 403 account over the summer?
The scary future is already here, Republicans. Anything scary that could happen, did happen, over the last 8 years.

The problem with your income redistribution scheme Nathan is that the only difference between the Democrats and Republicans is in which direction the income is redistributed!

Over the last 8 years, my income has been redistributed to the oil companies, big pharma, Halliburton and other war profiteers, and the rest of Bush's supporters all the while the wealthy got massive tax cuts.

It's the same smokescreen the Republicans used to come to power in the first place with Reagan.

Claimed that they were going to balance the budget and be fiscally responsible. 10 trillion in debt later, they are telling us how Obama is going to run up the debt.

It's like Garrison Keillor said:

So the Republicans have decided to run against themselves. The bums have tiptoed out the back door and circled around to the front and started yelling, "Throw the bums out!" They've been running Washington like a well-oiled machine, to the point of inviting lobbyists into the back rooms to write the legislation, and now they are anti-establishment reformers dedicated to delivering us from themselves. And Giuliani is an advocate for small-town America. Bravo.

lostpatrol: barack "herbert hoover" obama? i know mccain made that comparison and then compared himself to FDR. unbelievable.

hoover was the biggest trickle-down economist this century. it's the same policy bush (and mccain) has and it's what plunged us into the great depression then--and the current mess we're in now.

roosevelt was accused of being a socialist (sound like anyone we know?) because of programs like the WPA and the TVA, or his banking system reforms or the New Deal which gave jobs to the unemployed to help kick start the economy. but back then the new social security was the republicans biggest complaint.

so you think by simply inserting some bad name into obama's it will make a difference? i know, let's call them barack "adolph hitler/lucifer" obama and john "jesus christ/virgin mary/santa claus" mccain. maybe that will get your man elected.

do me a favor. before your next post, do a little research. read a book. watch the history channel. something.

According to recent Newsweek reports, Palin did not know that Africa was a continent and could not find it on a map. She wanted to speak on election night, which also shows she does not grasp the idea of a concession speech. She overspent on her outfit allowance, and met with campaign officials in only a towel. She did not know the countries involved in the North America Trade Agreement, leading me to believe she does not know what North America is. It's also possible that she had aides buy clothes for her and her family on their own credit cards. These are being reported by Fox News also, before I'm accused of bias.

The fact that, of all the wonderful women in this country, people would wish her to be the first to break into the Presidency is an insult to women.
