Poland, Howland shut out each other

Mooney’s boys team blanked Ursuline to win the SVC title.

POLAND — The Poland and Howland High girls soccer teams played to a scoreless tie Thursday.

Goalkeeper Casey Haering made eight saves for the Tigers (12-0-3, 4-0-2 All-American Conference Red). Howland already had clinched the league crown.

Goalkeeper Stephanie Ciccone made three saves for the Bulldogs (9-5-1, 3-2-1).

JV: Poland, 2-1

Springfield 4, Youngstown Christian 1

AUSTINTOWN — Allyson Berry scored two goals and she had an assist for the Tigers (13-2).

Breanne Mincherand Amber Uscianowski each had a goal. Kayla Ohlin also had an assist. Goalkeeper Heather Cozak made 10 saves for the Tigers.

Christy Hartman scored the goal for the Eagles (2-10-4). Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Vestal made 10 saves.

Boys

Mooney 3, Ursuline 0

STRUTHERS — James Simon, Rob Fox and Joe Merlo each scored a goal for the Cardinals (12-3, 3-0 Steel Valley Conference) who clinched the title.

Simon, Hector Hernandez and Chris Felker each had an assist.

Irish (6-4-5, 1-2) goalkeeper Andrew Rich made 20 saves.

JV: Mooney, 3-1.

Lakeview 4, Hubbard 1

HUBBARD — Joel Davis, Alex Janosik, Nick Massacci and Pete Pielecki each scored a goal for the Bulldogs.

Massacci had two assists while Matt Voytek had one.

Tim Kemner scored the goal for the Eagles (13-2). Goalkeeper Steve Roose made nine saves.

JV: Lakeview, 3-0.
