Man carjacked on North Side

Published: Thu, October 9, 2008 @ 4:00 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — A 53-year-old man was carjacked after he stopped his vehicle on Guadalupe Avenue near Granada Avenue to assist a man waving his arms in the street.

The victim said the man appeared to have an emergency and when the victim stopped to help, he got robbed.

The victim was threatened with a shotgun and told to get out of his car by two men around 9 p.m. Wednesday

When the victim got out of the vehicle, the suspect holding the shotgun asked him if he had any money or a cellphone.

The man gave the suspect $22 from his pocket, but said he didn’t have a cell phone. The suspects then let the man take his tools from the front passenger seat before fleeing south on Guadalupe with the man’s car, officers reported.

“This was unexpected in this neighborhood,” said the victim, who contacted The Vindicator to alert neighbors of this type of violent activity.

Don’t stop for anyone waving like the need help and be careful at night, said the victim.

“This neighborhood is pretty quiet, so this was random,” he said.

The man believes that the robbery may have been gang related because while two young men drove away in the vehicle, two other young men followed him.

That is scary, and this is why people always drive by people in distress cause you just can't trust them.
