Free firewood available Saturday

YOUNGSTOWN — Mill Creek MetroParks’ wood storage lot on West Golf Drive, just south of Stitt Pavilion, will be open Saturday for people who want to cut and load firewood.

There is no fee for the firewood, but individuals must bring a chainsaw to cut and load their own wood. The lot will be open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

No firewood may be removed from Mahoning County due to the quarantine for Emerald Ash Borer. Moving firewood illegally is punishable by fines of up to $4,000.

Only 15 vehicles will be allowed in the storage lot at any one time. Trucks larger than pick-up size are not allowed. Trailers attached to trucks are not allowed. Automobiles with trailers shorter than eight feet are permissible. For more information, call the MetroParks at (330) 702-3000.
