Capri Cafaro’s name in the mix for leader post

Published: Mon, November 10, 2008 @ 5:30 p.m.

The Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus meets Wednesday to discuss and possibly name its new leader — with state Sen. Capri Cafaro’s name surfacing as a strong candidate.

Cafaro, D-32nd, of Liberty, said she’s interested in being the Senate minority leader, but isn’t actively campaigning for the job.

“I’ll fill what role my caucus wants and that includes leader if they think it’s appropriate,” she said Monday. “It’s something I can do effectively. But it isn’t about what I want. It’s about what the caucus wants.”

Cafaro said other Democratic Senate members have asked her to run for minority leader. She is currently the caucus’ assistant whip, the No. 4 position for a Democrat in the state Senate.

Is this crazy, or it just me? Capri Cafaro was appointed into her position, she wasn't even elected. Daddy made sure her appointment was bought and paid for. Now she's a strong candidate for minority leader in the state senate...wow, its amazing how the elite can buy political posts!

She was crushed in 2004 when she ran for the senate...then lost again in 2006. Yet, after voters clearly voiced their opinion of her in two elections, she was amazingly appointed to the 13th congressional district replacing Marc Dann who moved on to the AG's office. This is case and point why politics are run by the wealthy and influential.

You all do the math!

No, YSUgrad, you aren't crazy. This would be one of the worst moves the Ohio Senate could make. Of course she was technically "elected" this time around but only because she was unopposed, nobody wanting to try and buck Daddy's cash. So she has never won an election where she had opposition. Clearly the will of the people has been totally ignored in the name of money. Her "political career" is 100 percent due to her Daddy's wealth. It'll be interesting to see if he can buy her this position. She is the last vestage of the Marc Dann mess, it's a wonder she hasn't been ousted too.

Thanks hubbardguy, I did forget to mention she was actually elected last time around, although as you said...unopposed! Thats pretty sad nobody even ran against her...most likely because most potential candidates know that she and her dad are politically connected and have a deep pocket to finance a campaign.

Politics at their worst! Elitism yet again wins!

Appointed or elected, if she does good things for The Valley I can live with that.

Stan, your correct, but in this instance, she's yet to pass any legislation that she herself has written and sponsored. If she wasn't Cafaro's daughter, would she even be in the senate right now? You decide for yourself.

I can go one step further YSUgrad99. She has done more since she has been in office than our PRESIDENT ELECT. Dad's money and the corrupt political machine....Cafaro for president in 2016? OMG I would move to Canada for sure

YSUgrad99:

Sometimes it takes a lifetime for a politician to find their way. Yes I know, she is a longshot but I have been known to buy a lottery ticket on occasion.

My point is that the elite run our political system. I'm tired of priviledged people running everything. She shouldn't be a state senator at all.

Here's a question, why not you Stan? I'll tell you why, your not rich with lots of political connections.

Who knows, maybe she can become a good senator. I just don't believe she deserved, or earned the right to represent us in the state senate.
