Youngstown cop crashes into bar

YOUNGSTOWN — A police officer on his way to a call swerved to avoid the vehicle in front of him and crashed into El Tropical bar at 1666 Poland Ave. around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, said Detective Sgt. Patricia Garcar, an accident investigator. Garcar said Patrolman George Wallace was not seriously injured, noting the cruiser’s air bag deployed. She said Wallace was traveling eastbound on Poland Avenue when the driver in front of him turned into the bar parking lot and he swerved to avoid hitting the car. Garcar said the crash resulted in a big hole in the building. No other injuries were reported.
