Thursday's Best Bets on TV
“30 Rock” (9:31 p.m., NBC): And you thought life for Oprah was nothing but bliss. Tonight, she drops by “30 Rock” and winds up on the same airplane flight as a heavily medicated and annoying Liz Lemon, who is all too eager to hit up the talk-show queen for some advice. Much hilarity ensues.
“Iconoclasts” (10 p.m., Sundance): In its fourth season, “Iconoclasts” continues each week to pair innovators from different worlds for a meeting of the minds about their passions and creativity. A good example airs this week as comedian Bill Maher is coupled with Clive Davis, music industry titan with a golden ear. It would be hard for anyone of any generation not to connect with Davis, 76, whose career began with signing Janis Joplin and has stretched into the present with Alicia Keys, among other current hit artists. In between, Davis wrote the history of pop music with names such as Aerosmith, Patti Smith, Barry Manilow, Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen. Turns out Maher loves music, while Davis admires the rashly sensible humor of the 52-year-old Maher (who has supplemented his stand-up work with TV, formerly hosting “Politically Incorrect” and now HBO’s “Real Time,” as well as making his new documentary, “Religulous”).
“50 Cent: The Money and the Power” (10 p.m., MTV): In the new reality series “50 Cent: The Money and the Power,” the hip-hop star and ultra-wealthy entrepreneur puts 14 wannabe moguls through a series of bizarre challenges to test their mettle. 50 Cent will invest $100,000 in the winner’s business.
