LIBERTY— Al Jazeera, the international Arabic-English language television network, is to hold a live remote broadcast at the Arab American Community Center of Greater Youngstown on election night.
Eyad Abu-Rahma, formerly of Youngstown, who works for the network out of its Washington, D.C., office, was instrumental in getting Al Jazeera to the Mahoning Valley, said Ray Nakley, the community center’s spokesman.
The center is holding an election event beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday with food and beverages available. Admission is free. The center is at 15 Belgrade Ave. between Colonial Drive and Gypsy Lane.
The time for Al Jazeera’s arrival isn’t known, but it will be after the event’s starting time, Nakley said.

I think it's disgusting that we would allow this organization to broadcast in our Valley. They have openly supported terrorist activities and done nothing but slander our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
If they are supporting Obama, shame on him for not refusing their support!
I hope people see him for what he is, based on his record and his many shady connections!
SEND AL JAZEERA THE RIGHT MESSAGE !

I see that the mention of AL JAZEERA meddling in American elections is a sensitive issue ! :)
This is really exciting. I am sure Al Jazeera will do a superb job of covering the US elections from the Valley, as its overall coverage of the US elections has been second to none. Their reporting comes as a much needed breath of fresh air after the infotainment ( if at all such a word exists ) of the mainstream media which seems to focus almost as much on personal attacks as it does on solid journalism.
Al Jazeera is just incredible courageous and the slander against it exemplified by Stan's comments only proves that point. Watch it at www.aljazeera.net/english
Stan, I am unsure about what exactly you mean by Al Jazeera ``slandering'' US troops but if your idea of slander is telling the truth about the human cost of the US invasions and occupations of Iraq and Agfghanistan, then you should know they are only doing their duty.
Ooops, I meant the statement by Forakercamp, apologies Stan.
Sasboy:
Gotta watch that speedreading. You need more lag time for comprehension .
My big question is, what is really bringing Al Jazeera to the Valley ? Being the propaganda arm of Islamic interests in the Middle East they must be here on business far beyond the election.
THE MORE NEWS THE BETTER
Stan, the US election is of interest to people across the world. Al Jazeera has a global audience and so it focusses heavily on US issues that are of interest to people around the world.
Again, I am unsure what you mean by ``propaganda arm of Islamic interests''. You do realize Al Jazeera told the truth about the Iraq invasion, which is far more than what can be said about the mainstream media !
Sasboy:
The standards upon which truth is based have been stretched many times by Al Jazeera. Truth and Al Jazeera are not synonymous . My links to the "propaganda arm of Islamic interests" has been deleted in my above posts. Must be a most sensitive issue with Vindy.
Stan, my sympathies for your posts being deleted repeatedly. Most websites have certain rules and posts that are deemed to be inflammatory or potentially offensive are usually removed. Maybe your posts were too inflammatory.
I am not sure if you have ever watched Al Jazeera, but I watch its English language station regularly and I find their standards of reporting to be just breathtaking. Their team is superb. They have a long record of reporting things that might otherwise have been taboo, corruption in the Arab world, the human cost of the US invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan, the toll of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories etc etc. The shine a light on corners that may be otherwise neglected and I think they have made their mark on the realm of international journalis. Controversial yes, but at least they show what needs to be shown.
Well Sasboy:
If I was as sympathetic to Al Jazeera as you are deletion would not have occured. Maybe Al Jazeera is negotiating with the Vindy to expand into Youngstown. :)
Thanks for trying Stan - you are talking to the wall with these people. Do you suppose Al Jazeera would be here if both candidates where white Christians or Jews - I think not. Maybe Al Jazeera will buy the Vindy.
Well maybe that was Obama's promise to the Williams on helping the valley.
Well, Toledo Ohio is only one of two towns that actually broadcasts the English channnel in the US from its local cable operator. The other is Burlington VT which I take it voted heavily for Mr Obama even though it is supposed to be one of the whitest states in the country.
The difference is that Al Jazeera managed to provoke some controversy in Vermont while none in Ohio. By that yardstick Ohio must be very liberal......
Just like me. Ha ha .....
Wow, I just noticed this......who translated, Ron Verbless?
Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley reap what you sow! You'll get from Obama exactly what you deserve.
Al Jazeera in the Valley?! Do we need any more negative publicity? This can't do anything for our image!
What if Al Jazeera did a documentary/newspiece on the Valley ?
Then the Valley would be known the world over ! Like they say, any publicity is good publicity !
Well, we have been called the arm pit of Ohio and we have been called one of the fastest dying cities in Ohio. Why not get Al Jazeera in here? With no one interested in the Valley, maybe they can show the terrorists a nice place to set up shop in the valley.
Honestly Laurieljc, please be careful what you wish for. You do not really want a bunch of killer terrorists in your midst......
Reality check - Al Jazeera English broadcasts in 120-130 million homes across the world, giving it a potential audience of somewhere in the range of half a billion. Most of the people who like watching Al Jazeera, such as myself are not terrorists. Then again, if your definition of a ``terrorist'' is someone who happens to have a different point of view from the neocons, maybe it is not such a bad thing after all........
Sasboy, I have been reading your posts and you sound like a spokesperson for Al Jazeera! You have to wonder why Al Jazeera would even want to broadcast from our area. Our Arab population is not small, but there are areas with larger Arab populations. There is nothing that is so exceptionally newsworthy happening here that would draw them, so I have to wonder, why here?
hey retards, al jazeera is one of the mor epro-western media outlets in the middle east.
Al Jazeera tries to report on American life and contemporary issues in a manner that takes into its diversity. This means they report from large cities, small towns, the countryside. A few days back I watched this really cool ( I mean cool ) piece on a program called Inside USA about Alaska. So contrary to what you may be inclined to think, they do not report exclusively on places in the US populated by Middle Eastern immigrants. Their perspective includes the Arab one, but is not limited to the Arab point of view.
Try watching them at www.aljazeera.net/english
"Their perspective includes the Arab one, but is not limited to the Arab point of view."
Their perspective is the Arabian one! If they go to San Antonio Texas and do a documentary on The Cornerstone Church then I would say that they are diversified.

Stan, you do realize you are undermining your own credibility by posting links to a loon preacher whose virulent hate sermons make the nonsense of the mainstream media look tame by comparison.
By the way, has anyone on this forum even WATCHED the channel ? You do realize it is not possible to be offended by something you have not even watched !
Hellooooooo......
Are Al Jazeera's critics finally silenced ???????
