YOUNGSTOWN — A report on Forum Health says the hospital system needs to prepare for a future that likely doesn’t have room for all the current hospitals in the Mahoning Valley.
The report released today by a consulting group says having two separate hospital systems, each with hospitals in Youngstown and Warren, “is likely unsustainable in the long term.” It notes that the area has an overcapacity of beds.
It doesn’t suggest closing any specific parts of Forum, however, which has been under financial pressures for some time.
Instead, the report recommends paying down debt, becoming more efficient, realigning labor costs and increasing patient volume.
The report by Chartis Group was commissioned by the Ohio attorney general’s office.
