Sen. Barack Obama outspent Sen. Hillary Clinton in North Carolina and Indiana.

North Carolina: Obama, $4.9 million; Clinton, $3.5 million.

Indiana: Obama, $5.6 million; Clinton, $3.2 million.

What supporters spent: The Service Employees International Union, backing Obama, spent about $1.1 million. The American Leadership Project, backing Clinton, spent more than $1 million. Most of it went for ads.
