CORTLAND — Warren Harding will try to defend its county titles against some of the area’s best athletes at the 14th Trumbull County track and field meet Tuesday and Thursday at Lakeview High School.
Semifinals begin at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday with finals in the 4x800-meter relay and some field events.
Ben Moody (14.6 seconds) of Lakeview, Mitchell Seawood (14.8), of Warren Harding, Jermaine Collins (14.8) of Hubbard and Marvin Logan (14.9) of Warren Harding should make the 110 high hurdles a close race. Collins (40.3), Ricardo Beltran (40.5) of Niles, Anthony Walker (40.7) of LaBrae and Davon Colburn (41.0) are entered in the 300 hurdles.
Moody (21 feet, 61‚Ñ4 inches) will be the athlete to beat in the long jump.
DeAvery Williamson (10.7) of Warren Harding, Robert Wigfall (11.0) of Hubbard and Mike Davis (11.1) of Mathews will compete in the 100.
Audrey Maheu of Warren JFK has the area’s top times in the 1600 (5:00.9) and 800 (2:18.7). Nicole Honsaker (15.7) of Mineral Ridge, Kayla Ellks (16.5) of Lordstown and Jennifer Bjelac (16.5) are entered in a strong field for the 100 hurdles.
The 100 will feature Kiley Mathews (12.7) of Lakeview, Breonna Carter (12.7) of Hubbard, Honsaker (12.7) of Mineral Ridge, Allorian Horne (12.8) of LaBrae, Shanae’ Butler (12.9) of Warren Harding, Katie Zitnik (12.9) of Hubbard and Lindsey Repp (12.9) of McDonald.
KaiCee Kubicina (39-81‚Ñ4) of Newton Falls, Brookfield’s Morgan Bonekovic (36-31‚Ñ2) and McDonald’s Joh’Vonnie Mosley (35-81‚Ñ4) are entered in the shot put. Hollie Bailey (5-4) of Lordstown, LaBrae’s Emily Potter (5-2) and Taylor Shiley (5-1) of Mineral Ridge will compete in the high jump.
EAST PALESTINE — Salem will attempt to defend boys and girls titles at the 106th Columbiana track and field meet Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at East Palestine High’s Bulldog stadium.
Zane Smith of United will compete in the 200 (22.9) and the 400 (51.4). Mitch See of Crestview will be the athlete to beat in the 100 (10.8) and 200 (22.5) and his teammate Jakob Leon has one of the state best marks (6-8) in the high jump. East Palestine’s Mike Salyers will compete in the high jump (6-3) and long jump (21-03‚Ñ4).
The Quakers’ Sarah Brobeck (38-3) and Victoria Bates (36-3) will be featured in the girls shot put, while Brobeck (138-2) is the athlete to beat in the discus.
The 3200 run should be close with Salem’s Lauren Shivers (11:44.9), East Palestine’s Elizabeth Kelvington (12:34) and Salem’s Betsey Yuhaniak (12:38) entered.
COLUMBIANA — Ten schools have entered the fifth Clipper Invitational track and field meet at Columbiana Saturday at 10 a.m.
