Fitch softball team defeats South Range, 7-0

NORTH LIMA — The Fitch High softball team jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning en route to a 7-0 victory Friday over South Range.

Winning pitcher Emily Purnell worked five innings with 11 strikeouts.

Kate Ferree went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two singles and she drove in three runs to spark Fitch (9-7). Stephanie Berdis hit a double and two singles and Alyssa Jones two singles.

Lauren Biroschak hit a pair of singles for the Raiders (9-8), who had four hits.

Baseball

NEW WATERFORD — Eighteen batters went to the plate in the top of the fifth inning as Beaver Local’s baseball team scored 13 runs en route to a 15-0 victory over Crestview Friday.

During the big inning, Shawn Mercer hit a pair of doubles, Jordan Fetty a pair of singles and Travis Lynch two singles.

Lynch scattered three hits with five strikeouts to pick up the win.
