Anthony Lariccia will be honored for giving $11 million to charitable causes.
YOUNGSTOWN — The Regional Chamber will honor three Mahoning Valley leaders at its annual meeting April 3.
Anthony Lariccia, investment adviser at Merrill Lynch, will receive the William G. Lyden Jr. Spirit of the Valley Award. Anthony Cafaro Jr., vice president of The Cafaro Co. of Youngstown, will receive the Donald Cagigas Spirit of the Chamber Award. The Chairman’s Political Achievement Award will go to Marc Dann, Ohio attorney general.
The luncheon will be at 11:30 a.m. at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman. Reservations must be made by Thursday by calling (330) 744-2131, ext. 12, or going to www.regionalchamber.com.
Helen Paes, chamber vice president, said Lariccia is being honored because he is a “true philanthropist.” The Spirit of the Valley Award is presented for leadership and commitment to the community.
She said Lariccia has given $11 million to Mahoning Valley causes, including $5.3 million to Youngstown State University. He is chairman of the school’s drive to raise $43 million for a new business school.
“It’s not just the money,” Paes said. “It’s his helping others and helping others understand that philanthropy is important and helps the quality of life in the Mahoning Valley.”
She said Cafaro is receiving the Spirit of the Chamber Award for his leadership. He is vice chairman of the chamber’s board of directors and a member of the executive committee.
Dann was selected for the Political Achievement Award because of his vision, commitment to excellence and efforts to fight crime on a variety of levels, Paes said. He was selected by Frank Hierro, chairman of the chamber’s board.
In addition to the awards, the program will feature reflections from those who have been chairmen of the chamber’s board since 1993. They are Thomas Humphries, William Bresnahan, John Pogue, Phillip Dennison, Gary Roberts, Steven Lewis, Thomas Fleming and Hierro.
