DOWNSIZING DELPHI
Local cuts
Recent changes at Delphi Packard Electric’s local operations:
Hourly workers: Buyout offers in 2006 cut the hourly staff from 3,800 to less than 700.
New hires: About 300 workers have been hired with hourly pay of either $10.50 or $11.
Salaried workers: The number of salaried workers has been cut from 1,200 to 900 since 2006.

Hmmmm. Hourly workers were cut by 3100, but salaried workers were only cut by 300? Perhaps Delphi is a little top-heavy.
