TORONTO — Vernon Wells homered and drove in three runs. Wells had three hits, Rod Barajas hit a solo homer and Joe Inglett had two RBIs for Toronto, which got a solid effort from John Parrish in his first start since 2004.

Phillies 8, Rangers 6

ARLINGTON, Texas — Chase Utley and Ryan Howard hit 400-foot homers in the third inning. After Utley hit a 418-foot shot into the Rangers’ bullpen in right-center field and Pat Burrell drew a walk, Howard hit a blast that landed in the second deck of seats above the bullpen for a 6-2 lead.

Brewers 5, Twins 1

MINNEAPOLIS — Manny Parra allowed two hits in seven innings to win his sixth straight start and Milwaukee beat Minnesota to end the Twins’ 10-game winning streak. Bill Hall had a two-run double and Ryan Braun and Corey Hart also had RBIs for the Brewers, who have won nine of 12.

Tigers 7, Rockies 6

DETROIT — Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth and Detroit overcame Todd Jones’ blown save to beat Colorado and improve to .500 for the first time this season. It was the Tigers’ fourth straight win and 14th in 17 games.

Astros 11, Red Sox 10

HOUSTON — Lance Berkman atoned for three strikeouts with a two-run double in the eighth inning to lift the Astros over the Boston Red Sox. Mark Loretta hit a three-run homer and Carlos Lee added a solo shot and a two-run double for the Astros, who beat Boston for the first time in five all-time meetings.

Cardinals 5, Royals 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Rick Ankiel hit a two-run home run to help rookie Mitchell Boggs remain unbeaten and St. Louis snapped Kansas City’s six-game winning streak. Boggs (3-0) worked out of a jam in the first inning against what has been one of the hottest teams in the majors and allowed only four hits and one run in six innings.

National League

Diamondbacks 6, Marlins 2

MIAMI — Brandon Webb returned to his All-Star form, Chris Young had three RBIs and the Diamondbacks beat Florida for the first time in five tries this season.

Webb (12-4), the 2006 Cy Young Award winner, stuck out eight and gave up two runs in six innings for the Diamondbacks, who ended a three-game skid. The Diamondbacks’ ace gave up 11 earned runs in his previous two starts, both losses.
