Maria Carson receives social worker award

YOUNGSTOWN — Maria Carson received the 2008 St. Louise de Marillac award during the annual Catholic Charities Diocese of Youngstown staff appreciation luncheon June 17 at St. Columba Cathedral hall, 159 W. Rayen Ave.

St. Louise de Marillac is the patron saint of social workers. This award is given annually to the employee who exemplifies and shows dedication to the mission of Catholic Charities.

Carson also was honored for her 45 years of service as an employee of Catholic Charities Regional Agency. She began her career at the agency as the secretary, upon completion of her high school studies at St. Mary’s High School in Warren.

While working at the agency as the office manager, Carson completed her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Youngstown State University. She has been the fiscal director at Catholic Charities Regional Agency for the last 12 years.
