Weathersfield OKs hiring consulting firm

MINERAL RIDGE — Weathersfield Township trustees approved hiring MS Consultants of Youngstown to handle engineering work for possible projects under the State Capital Improvements and the Local Transportation Improvement programs.

Trustee Chairman Fred Bobovnyk said Thursday that MS will help the township line up possible projects to be submitted to the Ohio Department of Public Works for grants or loans.

MS will be paid no fee unless a project is actually approved. The consulting firm then will be paid out of project funds for engineering fees.

The township did the Niles-Carver Road project in the state program two years ago, which included a two-part project of ditching, piping, repaving and installing new berms. The total cost was just under $300,000.

Trustees also named Zoning Inspector Sherri Craver to be administrative secretary starting Tuesday to replace retiring administrative secretary Judy Jendrasiak, who leaves Tuesday.

Craver will continue to work at her current salary of $34,710.68, but instead of being salaried, she will now be considered an hourly employee, Bobovnyk said. Township employees work 2,080 hours a year, he said, making Craver’s hourly rate $16.68.

The board also named former police clerk Cindy Smith to be full-time office assistant starting Tuesday at her current pay of $10.50 an hour.

Trustees also amended a resolution it passed earlier this year to clarify wording to say the township will pay Public Employees Retirement Benefits for full-time employees in the township.

The previous wording had just said employees of the township, but part-timers and elected officials are not covered. There are currently eight full-time employees covered.
