Notebook - Scrappers vs. Muckdogs

Published: Fri, June 27, 2008 @ 12:00 a.m.

Precautions: The Scrappers had all of the fans sitting in the general admission sections move out of their seats into the reserve sections because of the possibility of lightning. The bleachers are all made of metal and the Scrappers were concerned about fan safety.

Rainy day: Eastwood Field was hit with a heavy rain storm about two hours before their scheduled start. The game still started almost on time but the rains came back in the third inning and lasted almost the rest of the night although never heavy enough to stop play. It kept the ground crews busy between innings pouring drying compound over the wet spots in the infield, pitchers mound and home plate.

Scrapper stats: Going into Thursday’s game the Scrappers were sixth in the league attendance averaging 4,182 fans for their initial three-game home stand. The weather nullified another big crowd Thursday, which is the stadium’s weekly “Buck Night” as only 3,357 showed up because of the rain.

League stats: As a team the Scrappers were batting .245 before the game which was the fourth best average in the New York-Penn League. Auburn was leading with a .265 mark. The Scrappers’ pitching was ranked 11th with a 4.26 ERA after nine games. Scrappers outfielder-designated hitter Jaun Valdes was tied for second in doubles with four.

Greek Night: It was Greek heritage night at Eastwood Field. The Maids of Albania entertained with Greek dancing before the game.
