McCain speaks about economic struggles

Published: Fri, June 27, 2008 @ 12:28 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN – U.S. Sen. John McCain was introduced to the General Motors workers by North American regional president Troy Clarke.

“You are all GM,” Clarke said to the workers on hand, “and it’s a great honor to show you off to our special guest,” said Clarke.

McCain spoke to the workers about the economic struggles that many people are facing. McCain noted that “the heartland is hurting.”

“I am convinced what is being done right here is the future of the automotive industry,” McCain said. “I came here to publicize more knowledge of this workforce and to say that we can put America back on top of the auto industry.”

McCain also emphasized the fact that old jobs are not coming back, but new ones will replace them. McCain added that special educational programs will be necessary for those jobs, and he hopes to implement those jobs if he is elected to office.
