Mercer District Justice Building is for sale

SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR

MERCER, Pa. — The District Justice Building soon to be vacated by District Magistrate Larry Silvis is for sale.

Mercer County Commissioners Brian Beader and John Lechner said Wednesday they will consult with Solicitor William Madden to see whether the law requires the building to be advertised for bid or auctioned.

Lechner and Beader agreed that the location of the building, which Lechner described as “out in the middle of nowhere,” makes it impractical for other county government use.

The brick-and-block building on Grove City-Sandy Lake Road, Jackson Center, was built by the county in the mid-1970s and contains about 1,800 square feet. Commissioners built a new office because the old building was too small and had security problems and a leaky roof.

The new building is set to open next month on 5.8 acres on Pa. Route 208 north of Grove City and near the Pine Township Municipal Building. The move is expected to take place July 18, and closing of the district court office during that transition will be announced.
