STRUTHERS — Three of the Astro Falcons seven hits were for extra bases as they posted a 4-2 victory over Youngstown Express in a Class B League game Wednesday at Cene Park.
The Falcons (15-7) broke a 2-2 tie as they scored a run in the fourth inning and another run in the fifth.
Ben Hagbuda and Trent Vallinger each hit a triple for the Falcons, while T.J. Rosenberg hit a double. Jake Snyder scattered seven hits, with six strikeouts to pick up the win. Dan Eich hit a double and single and Sam Porter two singles for the Express (5-16).
Dave Sugar Excavating 2, Wharmby Sports 1
STRUTHERS — Mike Olenych (4-1) pitched a three-hitter, with six strikeouts as he out dueled Tyler Armstrong (0-2) to pick up the win for Dave Sugar (17-5). Armstrong allowed six hits and he struck out six.
All of the runs were scored in the first inning. Todd Kibby hit a double and single. Mike Tomko hi a double and single for Wharmby Sports (7-15).
Simon Roofing 1, Livi Steel 0
STRUTHERS — Simon Roofing (13-8) scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brad Bates (4-1) scattered five hits with three strikeouts to pick up the win. Rick Sommers hit a double. Zack McGhee hit a pair of singles for Livi (10-12). Joe Jackline (1-1) allowed on three hits with six strikeouts for Livi.
Dave Sugar Excavating 5, R J Trucking 2
STRUTHERS — Dave Sugar (16-5), behind 2-0, scored two runs in the fourth inning to tie the score, then Todd Kibby hit a two-run double in the fifth for the go ahead runs Tuesday.
Kibby also hit a single and finished with three RBIs. Nick Dinello hit a double and single. Pat O’Brien worked six innings to pick up the win and he hit a triple. Mike Popio hit a triple and two singles for R J Trucking. Evan Campbell hit a double and single and Matt Pitzullo a pair of singles.
Class AA
YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Metros split a doubleheader with the Pittsburgh Pandas in Tri-State Collegiate action Tuesday at Pemberton Park.
The Metros lost the first game 10-0, but won the second game, 4-1.
Cory Vukovich of the Metros scattered five hits and struck out seven to pick up the win in the second game.
With the score tied 1-1, the Metros scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a pair of walks, a hit batter, a sacrifice bunt, double by Matt Yarab and single by Josh Gardner. Yarab finished with a pair of doubles, while Armani Johnson hit a double and single.
In the first game, the Pandas scored two runs in the first inning, three in the second and four in the third.
