Pasta dinner raises funds for city sports

STAFF REPORT

YOUNGSTOWN — The city school board’s athletic committee has put its cooking skills to the test to help the district’s junior high school football programs.

The committee had a pasta dinner Saturday at the ITAM Pavilion in Brier Hill, the first of what is expected to be an annual event to raise money for the programs.

Dominic Modarelli, committee chairman, said he and board members Anthony Catale and Michael Murphy handled most of the cooking chores, along with some help from school employees, friends and members of Modarelli’s family.

The committee sold 322 tickets in advance at $10 each and served a total of 225 people.

The Modarelli family picked up the $400 tab for the pavilion rental.

After expenses of less than $500, the dinner netted $2,737.61, which was divided evenly between the North-East and South-West junior high football programs.

It will be used to provide food and perhaps T-shirts or other items for the players, Modarelli said.
