Police arrest Hubbard man for Youngstown South Side burglaries

Published: Tue, June 24, 2008 @ 10:51 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — Police investigating a couple of residential burglar alarms on the city’s South Side said they arrested Justin J. Shilling, 22, of Elizabeth Street, Hubbard, on two counts of burglary and two counts of breaking and entering.

The first alarm was at a house in the 200 block of Wychwood Lane around 7:30 a.m. today. Police said a rear window was broken and the rear door was open, but no one was inside.

While at the scene, they heard another house alarm sounding on nearby Lowell Avenue.

At that location, they said they spotted Shilling coming from the rear yard area of homes in the 200 block.

Officers found that two houses in that block had been broken into.

A resident of the area gave a description of a man who fled from the rear of one of those houses, and Shilling matched that description, police said.

The tennis shoes he was wearing also matched a shoe print on the rear door of the second Lowell Avenue house, police said.

Shilling was lodged in Mahoning County Jail to await arraignment Wednesday. Police said a roll of copper hosing was found in the backpack he was carrying.
