Frederick Dodge plans to relocate

The shuffling of car dealers on Market Street continues.

BOARDMAN — Frederick Dodge Chrysler Jeep is preparing to move its dealership across Market Street now that its property has been sold for $1.9 million.

Bob Frederick Jr. said he expects the dealership to move into the former Sweeney Chevrolet property in 12 to 16 months. A real estate company controlled by the Frederick dealership already has bought the property for $1.3 million.

In the meantime, the dealership will continue to lease its existing location from the new owners, he said.

Frederick said the move has been held up by a change in the corporate ownership of Chrysler Corp. The new owners are supposed to issue new designs for dealerships.

Frederick said the former Sweeney showroom will be torn down and replaced with a new showroom. The parts, body shop and service buildings will be kept and updated, he said.

Sweeney Chevrolet moved into a new building down the street.

Kutlick Realty said Thursday that it has arranged the sale of Frederick’s current dealership at 7871 Market St. A company controlled by auto dealer Greg Greenwood sold the property to GP Development of Youngstown.

Bill Kutlick, owner of the real estate company, didn’t want to identify the owners of GP Development, but Bob Frederick Jr. said the new owners intend to open a used car dealership.

The Frederick dealership has been looking for a permanent location for some time.

The dealership previously had only a Dodge franchise and was located at 7554 Market St. It intended to build a new building in front of the Southwoods office complex, but was blocked when a nearby property owner took legal action to enforce a deed restriction.

In the meantime, the former Frederick property was sold for $2 million to the owners of Saturn of Boardman. Jim Pace controls that company as well as Jim Pace Pontiac and Saturn of Route 422, both in Niles.

In 2006, Frederick Dodge bought Greenwood Market Motor Chrysler Jeep and moved into that location. It combined the three Chrysler brands into one location.
