Fairfield Twp. seeks surveyor

COLUMBIANA — Fairfield Township trustees are looking for a land surveyor to determine the boundaries at the Zion Hill Cemetery on Kirk Road.

On Wednesday, they authorized road supervisor Dennis Farmer to seek out and hire a land surveyor, providing the fee doesn’t exceed $500. The trustees instructed Farmer to present them with any prices he receives if all of the quoted fees exceed $500.

Farmer said the cemetery needs a proper driveway, and he recommended having the property lines determined before beginning the project to avoid encroaching on adjacent properties.

He noted Columbiana County periodically provides surveying services at no cost to local townships. He said he wasn’t sure whether the county would assist with this particular project.

“And if so, who knows how long it would take,” he said, adding that the cemetery is in desperate need of a paved driveway. The current access to the cemetery is covered with dirt and grass, he noted.

In other news, the township is looking to sell or scrap some of its old equipment and is preparing a resolution containing the specific items to be sold, scrapped or auctioned off.

Officials said some of the items, which cannot be moved from the government center, likely will be scrapped. A vehicle could be auctioned at Rogers Sale, they said. The list of items up for grabs includes a brush chipper, paver, concrete piping and a dump truck. Some of the items could be sold through a closed-bid process.
