YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Italian Heritage Foundation is accepting applications for the $1,000 Centofanti, $1,000 Lariccia Family, $1,000 Fernando Riccione and $1,000 Don Pipino scholarships to be awarded to students attending Youngstown State University this fall.

Applicants must submit a biography describing their high school experience and an essay explaining why they should receive the scholarship and what their plans are for attending the university.

The deadline for applications is July 13. The awards will be presented at this year’s Greater Youngstown Italian Fest on Aug. 1 at opening ceremonies.

Akiva Academy openings

YOUNGSTOWN — Openings are still available for the fall session at Akiva Academy on Gypsy Lane.

The school provides instruction for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. State EdChoice scholarships are accepted.

Registration materials and kindergarten screening scheduling can be obtained by calling the office at (330) 747-0452. Summer office hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
