The middle school pupil has his sights set on attending a military service academy.

STAFF REPORT

BOARDMAN — Max S. Morrow, a seventh-grader at Boardman Center Middle School in September, will attend the Junior National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., in August.

Max, the son of Patrick and Cheryl Thompson Morrow, was nominated for the honor by several of his teachers and his school.

The Junior National Leadership Conference will draw more than 250 outstanding middle school pupils from across the United States.

The conference goal is to inspire students to recognize their own leadership skills, measure their skills against those of current and former leaders and return home with newfound confidence in their ability to exercise positive influence within their communities and school.

During the six-day program, participants will be meeting with elected officials and key Congressional staff members, visiting Capitol Hill with a special invitation to the White House and traveling to Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Washington, D.C.’s, monuments and memorials. There will be numerous speakers scheduled to address the participants on a variety of issues.

Max has a 4.0 grade point average and wants to attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point or the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis.

He won an honorable mention at the district level for National History Day at Youngstown State University and traveled to Columbus for the state finals. He has been a lay leader in his church, Westminster Presbyterian, and is a member of Troop 46 of the Boy Scouts of America where he is pursuing a goal of achieving Eagle Scout. His hobbies include reading, drawing and golf.
