Numerous activities are planned at the McDonald park.
McDONALD — Woodland Park has officially opened for the summer.
Park movies are scheduled for every Tuesday night throughout the summer. Park movies start at approximately 8:45 p.m. Park crafts will take place every Friday at 12 p.m., rain or shine.
The park pool will open, weather permitting, weekdays at noon.
The Warm Water Program at McDonald High School will start Saturday and will run on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9 to 10:30 a.m. until Aug. 20. The program includes structured warm-water activities for people with arthritis, muscle aches and those who want low-impact exercise. The program is for residents age 18 and over.
Sign-up forms and waivers need to be filled out before the start date and returned to the municipal building. The fee is $3 per class.
Summer Adult Volleyball games start Monday, but registration closed Tuesday. Play will be on Monday and Wednesday evenings. If you have any questions, contact Cindy Green, park supervisor at (330) 530-4221.
The summer movie schedule is:
UTuesday: “Alvin and the Chipmunks.”
UJune 24: “Ratatouille.”
UJuly 8: “Shrek the Third.”
UJuly 15: “High School Musical.”
UJuly 22, 29, and Aug. 5 and 12, to be announced.
Concerts in the park will start July 10 and run until August 14 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Ramsay Pavilion.
The concert schedule is as follows:
UJuly 10: The Del Rezek Orchestra.
UJuly 17: The Jim Frank Combo.
UJuly 24: The Rocco Monaco Orchestra.
UJuly 31: The Big Band Sounds of the Don Burns Orchestra.
UAug. 7: The Mahoning Valley Button Box Club.
UAug. 14: The Frank Gallo Orchestra.
The Recording Industries contribute to the cost of the instrumental music for these performances under the arrangement of the Local 86-242 American Federation of Musicians.
Other activities will include:
UTie Dye Day at the Pavilion on July 1 from, 12 to 4 p.m. Bring one item you would like to tie dye.
UBeach Day, July 18. Beach Day will include sprinklers, the pool, beach balls, sand castle supplies, flying discs, games, lemonade and sand art.
USafety Day, July 11, with the time to be announced. Village police, paramedics and firefighters will be on hand to talk about safety and answer questions. Prizes and candy will be given away to participants.
UIce Cream Sundae Day will be Aug. 1 from 12 to 2 p.m. in the Woodland Park Pavilion.
UThe Village Youth Triathlon, which traditionally is the ending event for the summer season of the park, will be Aug. 14. Registration forms can be picked up at the municipal building. The triathlon is for ages pre-school and up and starts at the high school pool, where participants swim a lap, then head to their bikes and ride down to the Ramsay Pavilion, and then run to the big pavilion inside the park.
Participants are served hot dogs, and all receive an award for participating. The park usually closes around Aug. 15 so that summer workers who are college students can head back to school, and local students can prepare to start classes in McDonald schools the last week of the month.
