Sheila McCarthy brings a special little good luck charm with her to the baseball field. Whenever McCarthy heads to the diamond to cheer on her son Kyle, 9, she rarely goes alone. Right by her side, well, at her side close to the ground, is her trusty sidekick, Maggie.

Maggie, a 1-year-old miniature dachshund, has been to every game that Kyle and teammates on the Youngstown Hard Chrome team have played.

Though she wouldn’t admit whether Maggie was a good luck charm or not, McCarthy said, “She’s the team mascot. I bring her so she gets to be outside. I don’t like to leave her alone by herself for too long. I bring her so I don’t feel guilty.”

Even though some dogs bark like crazy when people walk by, Maggie lays calmly or wags her tail furiously, hoping to gain a little extra attention.
