Man reports being assaulted leaving bar
AUSTINTOWN — A 67-year-old Youngstown man who went to Bill’s Place, 4771 Mahoning Avenue, with his son to watch the Kelly Pavlik fight on television reported being assaulted as he was leaving the bar about 11:30 Saturday night.
The man said he and his son, 40, of Youngstown, were leaving the bar because the younger man had been asked to leave after he got into an altercation inside the bar.
The older man was assaulted from behind by one or more people as he walked to his car with his son, he said. The older man received four stitches on his broken nose and four stitches above one eye, Austintown police said.
18-year-old injured when men invade his home
SHARON, Pa. — A home invasion and robbery injured an 18-year-old victim Sunday, police said.
The teen answered the door at 10:19 p.m. at his home in the 300 block of Wheeler Place, police said. Three men forced their way in and hit him with their fists and a gun.
He was later treated at Sharon Regional Health Center for cuts on his face and a swollen eye.
The teen and his mother, who came downstairs during the attack, were forced into a back room. One of the men stood guard over them while the other two ransacked the upstairs, police said.
When the man guarding them was distracted, the teen was able to get outside and call for help. The three attackers ran away with $100 in cash, police said. There are no arrests yet.
Firefighters battle blazes at 3 vacant houses
YOUNGSTOWN — Three vacant houses, all on the South Side, burned over the weekend and early Monday.
Firefighters sent to 125 Williamson Ave. at 1:45 a.m. Monday found the structure fully engulfed in flames and allowed it to burn down for safety reasons. Damage was set at $10,000, a total loss, and the cause is under investigation.
While extinguishing a fire at 37 E. Boston Ave. at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, firefighters discovered the house next door at 41 E. Boston was burning, too. No damage estimate was given for 37 E. Boston, where the fire was deliberately set, reports show. Damage at 41 E. Boston was set at $5,000, and that fire also was determined to have been deliberately set, the fire department said.
Flag Day Celebration
COITSVILLE — The township will have its second annual Flag Day Celebration at 6:30 p.m. today at the Memorial Park, corner of Route 422 and Begala Drive.
The events for the ceremony include honoring veterans and members of the VFW, refreshments and music.
