LIBERTY — Township police said a Keefer Road man who barricaded himself in his garage was armed with three long guns.
Richard Tisone, acting police chief, said officers were called to the 1422 Keefer Road home of Daniel Stevens, 41, around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday. They were told that Stevens had barricaded himself in his garage and had weapons.
Tisone said township police set up a security perimeter around the garage, and the Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force was called in to assist. The standoff lasted until 5 p.m. at which time members of the task force entered the garage and were able to remove Stevens, Tisone said.
There were no shots fired and no officers were injured, Tisone said, adding that Stevens was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for evaluation. The chief said he doesn’t know why Stevens barricaded himself in his garage and refused to come out.
Police recovered two loaded shotguns and one loaded rifle from the garage, Tisone said.
Stevens was alone in the garage. His wife and two children were in the area but outside the police perimeter, Tisone said.
Police will confer with the prosecutor’s office about charges against Stevens, Tisone said, noting that aggravated menacing and inducing panic are likely counts.
