Lakeview’s Kyle Smedi will attend Slippery Rock, while two teammates have selected Mount Union.
CORTLAND — Lakeview High senior Kyle Smedi will continue his football career at Slippery Rock University.
Smedi was a three-year starter and captain of the 2007 team. He was named team MVP, All-Ohio, all-county and all-conference last year. He was AP Inland District defensive player of the year.
Smedi holds school records with nine sacks and 30 tackles for loss in a season, 181‚Ñ2 career sacks and 45 career tackles for loss.
He was selected for the North-South game.
Also, John Biehl and Steve Lane will attend Mount Union.
Biehl was a three-year starter and captain of the 2007 team. He was named first team all-conference, all-county and special mention All-Ohio. He will also play in the North-South game.
Lane was a two-year starter and captain as a senior. He was named all-county and all-conference on defense last season.
Springfield high senior Katie Bretz will play soccer at Thiel College.
Bretz was selected as co-offensive player of the year for her team and was a four-year starter for the Tigers.
She was also a member of the Youngstown Elite Soccer team.
She will major in pre-Physical Therapy.
Pat Mulligan of Brookfield High has selected Lake Erie College to continue his baseball career.
At Brookfield, Mulligan batted .390 this spring and was first team All-Trumbull Athletic Conference.
As a pitcher he had a 3.04 ERA and struck out 41 batters in 31 innings.
He is a member of the Roth Brothers team in the Class B League. Last summer he tied for third in the league with 37 strikeouts and led the loop with 46 innings pitched and four complete games.
The son of Tim and Nancy Mulligan will major in elementary education.
Lakeview high senior Angela DiCesare will play softball at Notre Dame College.
DiCesare played second base for the Bulldogs and was a four-year letterwinner.
She is projected as an outfielder for the Falcons.
Girard high senior Aysha Nickels will play volleyball at Florida Tech.
Nickels is being recruited as a utility player at Florida Tech.
She was a four-year letterwinner at Girard and last fall she led the Indians in kills (297), assists, blocks and saves.
She will major in psychology.
Boardman high senior Ryan Holmes will play football at Baldwin-Wallace College.
Holmes won three letters and was a two year starter as a linebacker for the Spartans.
He led Boardman in tackles (155) and was a first-team all-Federal League selection.
Holmes will major in secondary education.
CANFIELD — Canfield High graduate Pat Fening will enroll play football at Ohio Northern.
A wide receiver and running back, he was a two-year football varsity letter-winner and an All-Metro Athletic Conference and All-Northeast Ohio selectee.
The son of Chris and Liz Fening, he earned a 3.00 grade-point average at Canfield and also earned All-MAC honors and two varsity letters in track. He has been accepted in the T.J. Smull School of Engineering at ONU and plans on majoring in engineering.
Boardman High graduate Jay Dana will play baseball at Roanoke (Va.) College.
Dana, who also lettered in football and basketball, which major in pre-law. He had a 3.40 grade point average at Boardman.
