Monarchs 70, Liberty 63

NEW YORK — Ticha Penicheiro scored nine of her 18 points in the fourth quarter to rally Sacramento to a victory over New York. Nicole Powell had 13 points, Kara Lawson and Adrian Williams-Strong had 11 each and Rebekkah Brunson added 10 for Sacramento (3-4). Williams-Strong also had nine rebounds. Lisa Willis scored 11 points, Cathrine Kraayeveld had 10, and Tiffany Jackson added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Liberty (3-4), who had won two straight overall and three in a row at home. New York shot 35 percent from the field, including just 6-for-21 on 3-pointers. Leilani Mitchell, making her second straight start in place of the injured Loree Moore for the Liberty, finished with just two points but had a team season-high eight assists.

Sun 87, Mystics 79

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Asjha Jones scored 16 points, and Connecticut (7-1) opened the second half with a 19-0 run en route to its fourth straight victory and a half-game lead over Detroit atop the Eastern Conference. Monique Currie scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Mystics (2-6), who rallied from a 24-point deficit to pull within eight in the fourth quarter.

Lynx 90, Silver Stars 78

MINNEAPOLIS — Rookie Charde Houston scored 11 of her 15 points in the second half to help Minnesota hold off San Antonio. Houston scored seven consecutive points in a nearly 7-minute second-half stretch while her teammates went cold, keeping the Lynx ahead throughout before a 20-5 run midway through the fourth quarter put San Antonio away. Seimone Augustus scored 12 of her team-high 18 points in the first half as Minnesota (6-1) shook off its first loss of the season and remained undefeated in three home games. Rookie Candice Wiggins also scored in double figures for the Lynx with 17, hitting 13 of 14 free throws. Ann Wauters matched her career high with 24 points and added 10 rebounds for the Silver Stars (3-4), who were playing without leading scorer Sophia Young because of a strained groin.
