Tire recycling drive
YOUNGSTOWN— The Litter Control and Recycling division is having a tire recycling drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 21 at the Chevrolet Centre.
Participants can bring up to 10 rimless tires for free. After that, it costs $1.50 for each rimless tire dropped off. Tires with rims will cost $1.75 and truck tires will cost $6 each.

Volunteers sought for advocacy program
YOUNGSTOWN — Community Legal Aid is asking for people to help with its Volunteer Advocacy Legal Unit Program.
The program, which has been in operation since 1991, uses trained volunteers to help victims of domestic violence obtain civil protection orders.
Interested people must complete a 16-hour training course that will teach them how the court system works and how to properly complete forms. Volunteers are asked to make a one-year commitment and work twice a month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Delivering Mobile Meals
WARREN — Trumbull Mobile Meals is looking for volunteers to make home deliveries in their neighborhoods throughout the county.
Those interested can call the meals office, (330) 394-2538.
Personalized assignments can be arranged to meet the needs of the volunteer.
Mobile Meals home deliveries are available to anyone with a need, regardless of age and financial status.
Carriers collect tons
YOUNGSTOWN — The National Association of Letter Carriers collected 214,310 pounds, or 107 tons, of food while delivering mail in the Mahoning Valley on May 10.
NALC Branch 385 of the letter carriers had the “Stamp Out Hunger” drive, which gathered 26 percent more donations than in 2007. The drive has distributed 1,158 tons of food in the past 16 years, with 2008’s collection contributing to Second Harvest Food Bank, Gleaners Foodbank, the Salvation Army, St. Vincent De Paul and 10 other local food banks.
The U.S. Postal Service, Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way and AFL-CIO Community Services participated.
Summer concert series
NORTH LIMA — Beaver Township will kick off the 2008 Music in the Park Summer Concert Series with a performance by The Frank Gallo Orchestra at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Woodworth Park. The park is on Luther Avenue, off East Western Reserve Road between Market Street and Southern Boulevard.
The free concerts are ongoing through Aug. 20.

Kids’ history program
YOUNGSTOWN —The Youngstown Historical Center will have its first kids’ history summer program from noon to 2 p.m. June 25 at 151 W. Wood St. The program is called “Mahoning Memories.”
Young historians will discover our rich past from geology, American Indians, canals, steel and Harry Burt’s ice cream empire. Participants create their own Good Humor bar.
History Club is for youngsters between the ages of 8 and 12.

The cost of the program is $10 for Ohio Historical Society members; $12 for all others.
