HOWLAND — Sen. George Voinovich took issue with Sen. John McCain during a local visit but still stressed his support for the Republican presidential candidate.
Voinovich, R-Ohio, spoke today to a gathering of Regional Chamber members and was asked by a member of the audience why he was supporting McCain despite some differences on policy.
“John is authentic and has good character,” Voinovich said. “To me, that’s the most important thing.”
Voinovich was clear in saying U.S. troops should be removed from Iraq. He also said taxes needed to be raised and defended the use of budget earmarks to provide money for local projects. McCain has called for troops to remain in Iraq, supported tax cuts and spoke against earmarks.
